What a break! It's kind of neat to build a plane out of wood with a bit of
history to it.
I have now begun cutting and sanding all of the dimensions. :) Mike Johnson

Yes, some of it. It's very old and I am waiting for any reaction that might
happen when cutting it open.
The wood is so dry it could have a tendancy to split. Mike Johnson

Mike, I used some Douglas Fir on my first aircraft, that came out of an
old house. It was very dry so I let it set outside for a couple of weeks to
raise the moisture level.

Hello Rich,
My intention is to sand all pieces then at all joints use a toothing plane to
create a very strong bond.
This is used in fine furniture construction. A toothing plane looks like a
small comb. I have built
alot of furniture over the years and the joint is far superior to any other

have found a hard pencil works best.
This is a very old auto body trick taught to me twenty some years ago. I have
yet
to do any finish work on a KR2 but I would imagine it would work just as well.

Thanks for the response guys. I am just pre-planning my build. I would like to

Does anyone know of any builder that ended up with an unusually light weight
fuselage? I searched
the archives and had some trouble finding any isolated information on what to
expect for weight
with no engine. I would like to beat the average if I could.
Thanks a bunch, Mike Johnson
Hey Mark,
For many years I built street rods with big V8's. I am by no means an expert,
but over time I have
learned to depend on Borchardt Speed and Automotive for all my machine work.

After all the great feedback from the kr club, and talking to a couple of
engineers I came up with only
one discovery, do nothing!
The "boat" is the best part of the kr design. I talked it over with a
structural engeneer, and let
him no what all your thoughts were as well, and he was quick to s
his
plane. I got suckered
into buying one of his videos about the composite construction he used. I was
really happy with the
video. By the way, his canopy is very, very streamlined.
Thanks to everyone who answered my questions on fuselage weight. Mi
