history capability of modern shells. Most common
shells provide history store/search/modify
capabilities. Other wise your needs (GUI) can be
meet with TCL/Tk or Perl/Tk.
Learning bit of Tcl and Tk will be of extreme

Qt is great if you want to integrate your application with a C++ code, and also easy to program for a C++ developer. GUI you'll get with this is similar to that of KDE. Qt requires you to have some understanding of it's signal and slot architecture, and will take time to learn.
