Hello Steve
Yes I am looking for a full solution including physical drive and
controllers.
We have virtual tape solution but in parallel would like to send copies to
physical tapes

Has hot vaulting totally replaced the physical transport of backup tapes to
off-site vaults?

I also liked SL8500.
I implemented it.
It was the first Storagetek (actually Sun already) and the largest tape
installation in Poland and ...last installation of STK tape storage for
mainframe and distributed systems.
I supported several upgrades and that's all.

Hello
To be precise we need a solution where we can eject the tape on a monthly
basis and move it to vault.

Peter,
IBM TS4500 won´t attach to any Z systems. It can have a lot of TS1170 (aka
3592-EH8) inside, but just for TS7770/80 data destage from Hydra. IBM stopped
to produce tape controller with 3592-C07 some years ago. Since this, mainframe
data is available in physical cartridge passthru TS7770/
We do similar with IBM TS devices. Push data to virtual tape on TS7770, it
passes thru to a pair of tapes in a TS4500. These tapes can be taken offsite
at will, but can't be read directly by the z, they need to restore to another
TS77xx box to be accessible to the z. All encrypted. All compr
curl is available as part of the zopen community and can be downloaded
and installed as part of the base installer using https and then
installed so that is easy (for most)
curl is also part of the optional, and free, IBM Open Enterprise
Foundation (aka OEF) and thus installable via ShopZ and SMP/
Hi Brian,
I would like to discuss this with you.
What is your email address?

I would take chat GPT with a huge block of salt. Sure, the Spectra boxes can
take TS11xx tape drives in them, but as far as I know, they won't attach to a
mainframe.
The IBM answer may or may not be wrong, depending on what the OP actually

That fixed it. Thanks for the info.
