Peter, IBM TS4500 won´t attach to any Z systems. It can have a lot of TS1170 (aka 3592-EH8) inside, but just for TS7770/80 data destage from Hydra. IBM stopped to produce tape controller with 3592-C07 some years ago. Since this, mainframe data is available in physical cartridge passthru TS7770/

We do similar with IBM TS devices. Push data to virtual tape on TS7770, it passes thru to a pair of tapes in a TS4500. These tapes can be taken offsite at will, but can't be read directly by the z, they need to restore to another TS77xx box to be accessible to the z. All encrypted. All compr
