Hi there,
I just found FreeDOS the other night, and started playing with it. I'm an old DOS user
starting with 3.3 or something and "getting old" with the later versions, including
4Dos. It's nice to see people actually can write appearantly better software than

I'm afraid I don't have much to contribute, but 'Trouble in Config.sys'
sounds like a great name for a murder-mystery film centered, for some
reason, around *DOS.

Hi Eric,
where does SYS do that? I can't find it: as far as I can see the boot
sectors use DL for FAT32 partitions.

Missing support in UTILS:

More important - missing support in BASE:

The fdos1440.img file is only meant for people who cannot
boot from CD-ROM. So you have to use it in combination with
the CD-ROM. Alternatively, use FreeDOS ODIN, which is a
distro which packs all the best on a single floppy.

Hi Olger!
FreeDOS beta 9.5 2034/FAT32 on a 10 GB / 192 MB system sounds okay...
but why on the SECOND 23 MB partition after a 40 MB DOS 6.22 one?
Will that be D: then or C:?
FreeDOS can boot from D: as long as it is a primary partition,
but it will try (in that order) to read the config from

Hi Aitor, Jeff:
DISPLAY should work at least in some DOSEMU 1.1.x (devel) versions
where the charset interface is implemented in DOSEMU BIOS. You might
want to try that. Syntax:
display con=(vga,437,1)
mode con cp prep=((858) c:\freedos\bin\ega.cpx)
mode con cp select 858

diskette installation isn't implemented yet.
It was implemented, in the past, but that's before we had follow-up steps
after copying disksets
(creating autoexec.bat/config.sys, installing kernel files, translating
the user interface of FreeCOM into
a localized language).

Hi, you could get a French version of the FreeCOM command.com ...
this should help most and be little work. CCing Alain, maybe he
has a French command.com around. Otherwise I have to explain you
how to download the "localization toolkit" for FreeCOM and use
that to switch FreeCOM to French languag

Hi Jeff,
In order to type those characters you need two things:
(1) that the characters you want to represent are printable on the
screen. For this, you'd use DISPLAY (see documentation and such),
because default codepage (character set) will not have the capital
accented letters (so you can wr

I'm new to FreeDOS myself, but I'll try to help anyway...someone with more
knowledge will be able to help more.
