Moikka Leke [and Finnish-for-"and" :-)] Mika!

The fdos1440.img file is only meant for people who cannot
boot from CD-ROM. So you have to use it in combination with
the CD-ROM. Alternatively, use FreeDOS ODIN, which is a
distro which packs all the best on a single floppy.

HINT: I am working on an improved THREE floppy distro. Who
wants to help? The first floppy contains the main part,
the second contains bigger programs and the tools which you
need to change the first floppy into another language. The
third floppy is simply a ZIP of the whole DOC directory.
(The HELP directory is on the second floppy and the HTMLHELP
even fits on the first floppy!)

If you get a "FAT12" error message for a FAT32 drive, then
you probably forgot to FORMAT that drive. FreeDOS kernel makes
unformatted drives look like FAT12, it seems (DR DOS does it
in similar way, only MS DOS makes unformatted drive look like
such). I need an hint from the KERNEL experts to make WHICHFAT
distingusish FAT12 from UNFORMATTED. Thanks! And I do not want
to read the boot sector from disk, there must be another way.

A 486DX with 12MB RAM and 620MB disk is a nice choice for FreeDOS :-).

Eric

PS: FAT32 support limits right now are...
- due to a bug, REN in a FAT32 root directory fails
- you cannot boot from the second harddisk from FAT32 even if
your BIOS would allow that (SYS bug)
- FreeDOS FORMAT can create FAT32 which are incompatible to
  Windows in some cases
- there is no support for long file names (hardly any, that is)
but FAT32 and long file names are actually two completely
  different things!
PPS: Make sure to put SWITCHES=/E in your (fd)config, sys file,
to suppress a feature which often causes incompatibilities.
It is EBDA movement, similar to MS EMM386 NOMOVEXBDA story.
