I've taken a look at the LightDM bugs page. This bug has been reported
there as https://bugs.launchpad.net/lightdm/+bug/1277386 I've confirmed
it, but as it was reported by someone running Trusty, I'm not convinced

This is quite annoying! I'm using 13.10 and I just tried to safely
remove a Samsung 1TB external drive (USB3.0 device plugged into USB3.0
port) but it kept remounting. I tried it this way as well:
sudo udisks --unmount /dev/sde1
sudo udisks --detach /dev/sde1
and that also remounted except it too
As requested I can confirm that I am seeing it with kernel 3.2.0 and
xserver 7.6

I'm afraid there's not much else that I can do here. We can't live-
migrate your old 9.1 instances to 9.3 during apt-get upgrade, *that*
would be scary and a potential major data loss if anything goes wrong.
It might also take several hours on big databases.

Note that you can now use "pg_upgradecluster --method upgrade" to use
pg_upgrade. It is not the default yet, I'll switch it in the next Ubuntu
release when 9.3 is the version that people upgrade from, and pg_upgrade
has stabilized enough.

You are in graphical tty7 and select the "switch user" option.
The xserver gets stuck trying to open a new graphical tty. You have black
screen on tty8. You cannot go back to tty7.

processor that does not support C-states (only speedstep). I tried the
patches and only keeping the CPU at maximum is sufficient to hit
glxgears vrefresh.

When more than one audio output source are available, gnome-settings
usually picks the 1st one on the list. There is no way to save any
alternate choice. For example I have:
HDMI/DisplayPort2 Built-in Audio
Digital Output (S/PDIF) Built-in Audio
Analog Output Built-in Audio.
I can confirm that the update in precise-proposed solves the problem on
my laptop with Intel/NVIDIA.

I realized, that I don't have to reboot the machine.
If xscan cannot find scanner devices, it is enough to "suspend" the laptop.
After waking up again xscan will find the scanner.
