I think this bug has a workaround. I'm not sure this will work on 12.04,
for I'm still using 11.10 and it worked there. The idea is to copy
/usr/share/gedit/plugins/latex/tools.xml over
$HOME/.config/gedit/latex/tools.xml using root user priviledges. This
will prevent the local file to be overwritt
...and the third time I tried to shutdown the PC with laptop-mode-tools
installed, did not power off after shutdown via GUI
so this is a kind of russian roulette? new kernel feature? ;-)

I am going to be so bold as to close this bug report. The original
report (from 2004) and followups reflect the way Ubuntu was installed
and what NetworkManager and other software did a long time ago and the
subsequent discussion is not clearly about any one issue. If there are

if you add one for a plain text docu then you get 2 options
So after switching to GNOME3 the Network Manager GUI works again (or
maybe a restart could've achieved the same for Unity), where setting up
custom DNS servers is an option, and it gets correctly transliterated
into /run/nm-dns-dnsmasq.conf.
