I learned that the gsd-backlight-helper is trying to change the
brightness in
/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:02.0/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness
but it does not work. I can change the brightness only by

Just another addition to the chorus. Accessing OS X file servers seemed
to cause the issue. CPU maxes out with a gvfsd-afp process for every
folder I connected to via a bookmark. Simply ejecting all of these
resulted in all gvfsd-afp processed terminating and the laptop returning
to normal. However
Further analysis suggests why there's a remote problem now in the first

package will be distributed/visible to us through Update Manager? I'd
rather it update my network-manager automatically versus me downloading
the package and overwriting my current install manually.

I just got done installing the driver followed the instructions and I am
still getting no sound. But this is only the case in uBuntu it works just
fine in Windows 7

Still exists with version 4.0.1.2. This is unforunately a highly visible
bug that doesn't seem to get much attention.
This is probably a result of the removal of default shadows from KDE:

A workaround is to install libreoffice-gt
