I am using an older hamm (installed end of May), and sendmail
is refusing to send mail to users not on the machine. For

Despite Potato being based on a 2.2 kernel, downloading the
unsupported/linux22netscape doesn't work to well.
However, the supported/linux20libc5 version seems to be very stable
even on my 2.2 kernel Potato system.
Perhaps this is the reason for the conflicting reports??

I'm running kernel 2.0.32 and I'm sharing my disk with Win95.
The partition that I share with Windoze is VFAT and it works fine under
Linux, except that of course (?) different read/write/execute priviledges
don't work on it.

permissions. Something like rw-rw-rw instead of chmod 777

My HP Laserjet 6L can only print ASCII files correctly. Other files
just print things
such as ASCII headers on Postscript files. Printing from Netscape also
prints out
wacky ascii characters.

Before you "SU" to root type 'xhost +' this will disable X windows access
control. Remember X windows is a network program and has to authorize
every user before it will let you run an application.
By the way xhost + is also not the most secure way of handling this

Out of personal curiosity, I will be conducting an experiment this
weekend that may perhaps turn into a larger project.
My very cooperative wife will be attempting to install Windows XP
Professional and then Debian Woody--both from scratch--on one of our
home computers.

I've recently started using aptitude from the console instead of apt-get
for package management on my Woody systems. I find some of the
features, like the ability to do a "--with-suggests", quite useful. It
seems like Aptitude does a better job of handling dependencies as well.

I have just added a master IDE drive (primary IDE) to my linux setup. Now
it is trying to boot from it rather than my SCSI HDD (the one where Linux
is). Can I change this? I had my drive setup as a slave b4 (without a

Guess what? I used dselect to install a few (well quite a few) packages
including the kernel sources and utilities. As it requested me to
compile the new 2.0.30 kernel I replied yes. All went ok till I rebooted!

Yesterday I built a Debian stable file server for my father assuming he
had a router/switch with a DHCP server on it. Today I learned that he
does not have a router - only a switch.
I want to try making the Debian box into a router remotely. Would this work?
