Does this persist over a reboot? If not, maybe the key that initiates the eject (using something like acme, ikeyd, ... ?) was 'stuck', either physically or due to the infamous kernel bug, and kept autorepeating? Well, I did reboot but it came back.. none of the keys were stuck.. what I noti

CPU and Memory usage of XFree86

Hi.. I've noticed that the XFree86 process on my ibook is taking up a decent chunk of memory and some CPU and this seems to be slowing down my machine a bit .. when I do 'top', XFree86 is a process that's constantly at the top of the list.. the process itself, when I do a ps shows up as: /usr/

Another related qn.. the memory usage statistic using top doesn't show memory freeing up after I close some heavy duty programs like Openoffice and mozilla that I had running.. so in effect, the memory usage grows till almost 100% of the memory is used up but it never comes back down.. so I s

Don't look at memory usage of X, it is normal that top or ps report very high amounts ; X does not really use this memory. Search google for "XFree86 3dfx map memory", I think you will find the explanation. Great.. I'll do that.. thanks.. nirmal
