Yes you did suggested something about the BIOS, and then Jan-Rens suggested
me to try update the firmware.

Yes Michael you were right. The Shutdown issue was due to my UEFI firmware.
I just updated it today and now everything is fine.
Thanks a lot [?]
Now I can enjoy Debian

The command 'shutdown -hP now' still does not work when run as root. I
think i will have to wait for Jessie Stable to be released and then try it.
Maybe there is a bug in the Kernel 3.16. [?]
Anyone here using the kernel 3.16 ?

Hi Gajadur,
The shutdown command someone previously suggested should have been (as
root):
shutdown -hP now
The P option is for power off. This command works on my desktop.

What happens when you shut down from a boot DVD (life CD) Linux ? Like GRML
oder some installer disk.

If that works then try to install the same kernel.
Anyway, does it work from Windows (does the laptop still have that ?), and can
you do the Dell hardware check ?

Hi Michael,
The "shutdown -h now" command still does not solve the problem. The system
shutdown for a few seconds and then restarts by itself.
The 'halt' command does stop the cpu and the screen goes black however the
system is still On and i can see the cursor on the top-left of the screen.

Gajadur,
There is /etc/default/halt (or so, i'm no more using Debian), you can try to
switch to the alternative. Maybe it works...
If not, try to find out which command (as root or via sudo, from a terminal)
does shut down the machine. For example, "shutdown -h now" should never do a
reboot. I

I would suggest debian jessie for best hardware support, especially for a
recent notebook. However, take care that many wifi drivers are inside
non-free repositories.
try with dmesg and lspci to understand the exact chipset/driver you need,
