Sorry? Do you mean that in Debian this is currently not the case?
How can you expect the encoding of a file given only its language?
Anything else than a unique encoding is doomed to produce very ugly
results.

Hi,
while packaging the latest version of system-config-printer, I was hit
by the poor quality of the French translations, and I fear the situation
is the same for other languages:

Hi,
I’ve just uploaded system-config-printer 1.0.0, which is the version
we’d like to see in lenny, to experimental. It is currently sitting in
NEW, but you can also find it at http://malsain.org/~joss/debian/
I’m asking again for a review and update of upstream translations in
this package. Ther

Version 1.0.0 has been in lenny for some time, and we are still missing
many translations.

Hi all,
here are two .pot files that contain the strings to be translated for
the gdm3 package. There is one for the Debian stuff, and one for the
patches.
Translations are welcome as bug reports, private emails or mails to the
pkg-gnome mailing lists.
Thanks,

For ease of translation, I have merged the two pot files in one
Hi all,
a patch recently included in the gconf Debian package adds an
untranslated string for an error message.
It would be nice to have translations for it in squeeze. I’m attaching
the POT file.
Please submit translations as bugs against gconf.
Cheers,

Translations for Debian-specific strings are in debian/po-up. Some of
them already exist in most languages, because they were taken from an
earlier version of the package.
Sorry if this wasn’t clear: all languages listed, apart from French and
Catalan, require translations.
--withtranslators” options of podebconf-report-po?
I tried that, but it proposed sending email to the upstream translators,
so I stopped my attempt right there.
Anyone more familiar with Debian i18n procedures is welcome to checkout
the package from svn and do the appropriate manipulations.

menus.
I’m CCing the i18n ML to remind translators of the possibility to submit
such translations. It seems that debian/po-up directories (in
gnome-menus, but also gdm3, gnome-session and gnome-system-log) are
omitted by whatever tools people are using to check for missing
translations.
Cheers
