其实你说的这个问题，在我翻译文档的时候经常遇到。尤其是一些技术性文档，更是如此。我的意见是：对于技术性文档很有必要保留英文不翻译，翻过来反而不像样。而对于给普通用户看的东西，尽管有时直译或意译都不好，但还是尽可能地翻过来。因为对于普通用户来讲，看到任何一个英文单词都是非常难受的。技术性文档很少有普通用户会去看的;-)
这是我个人的看法！主要是从别人的翻译中看来的。如机

Ming Hua 几天前已经写得很明确了，用哪个是个人喜好。我的翻译是 "
旧版本，指以前的稳定版"，这个翻译对原来的改动的确比较大了点，这一点 Ming
Hua 说得很清楚，是个短句了。
之所以这样翻译我也想了很长时间，主要是感觉原来的几个不太符合大陆的阅读习惯。这纯粹是个人的语言感觉，可能有人会觉得原来的没问题。
但不论是哪种翻译，大家都能理解，这样不就行了？如果有更好的翻译也可以提交上来，大家一起讨论讨论嘛。我觉得在中文文档方面，Linux
实在太弱了点，而且我在 Debian 中看到的都是比较老的，如
Debian-refence-zh。Linux
的中文文档还有很大的提升空间

sarge can still be installed with it even though sarge is now "oldstable"
and no longer "stable".
