I just tried the nightly release of Sarge installer on a Sun Enterprise
250. Detection of the SCSI hard disks went fine, but partitioning is
not functional at all. I have noti
that would waste space. So just, on a normal machine, apt-get
install the package that provides the kernel you're interested in and
grab it from /boot.

I noticed that the fdisk within the installer does not
have support for the SGI disklabels. This is required
in order to configure the drive and make it bootable.
I have another machine running woody which when I run
fdisk from the package it does have all the support
needed. I didn't know who t
back where it again fails to find my floppy drive. And this
often causes the entire other step to fail.
Finding this mythical floppy drive seems to get stuck on some queue of
tasks that need to be done, and each time it fails it just gets stuck
back on the queue.

This isn't really a Debian-ISP question.. but anyway...
I don't think the 2.2 release had the Compaq SCSI drivers built into the
kernel.
You either need to compile/get a kernel with the required SCSI drivers
built in, or get the module for it.
Check the Debian website... I think there were boot
we usually try and keep at least one complete revision of iso images
from a previous release but it appears we won't be able to do that
with the upcoming 3.0r1 release :-/

I have used a parted boot disk before with great success. I only
wished it had been directly on the debian disk, so i didnt have to
make a second boot disk.
i think it would be a great idea.

Whoops, I just re-read the entire correspondence of the bug report, and Branden does
say something more about testing his changes. He talks of preparing a patch for me to
try out by building from the XFree86 Subversion source tree. I could give it a try, if
he's ready with the patch before mid-D

In general, when the user chooses not to install to the MBR, it should
always be possible to suggest a reasonable default, either the
partition for / or for /boot.

I'm working on an embedded project - currently trying to install Lenny
on an AMCC PowerPC 405EX evaluation board (Kilauea). Sorry for the

Hi All,
I'm doing some embedded development work with an AMCC PowerPC 405EX
(Kilauea) evaluation board. This board has no hard disk or CD-ROM
peripherals at this time.
I'd like to get Lenny installed and running on my Kilauea, and I'm
trying to netboot and install to a NFS mount point - one that

oday's d-i build for both installs, with no success. I believe that
the ICH8 controller needs 2.6.18 to work. Any idea when d-i will be
available with 2.6.18?

I'm trying to install Etch and everything goes fine until it tries to
configure taskselduring installation of the base system. It gets
to "configuring tasksel" and never finishes. This happens with
the net-install, the business-card installer and the o
preseed.cfg file and
answering some of the questions. Just need resources to answer them all
