Hey *,
I guess the CFP isn't open yet (at least, that's what
http://debconf10.debconf.org/cfp.xhtml says), so maybe it doesn't
matter, but the dc10 schedule in penta
(https://penta.debconf.org/penta/schedule/dc10) has the dc9 logo
displaying for some reason...

I'd call the above schedule something like "DebConf core Aug 23-Aug

Sorry for top posting.
Jonathan's schedule has everything I liked about mine, fwiw, so +1 from me.
I particularly love the idea of having talks, then serious hacking time,
then lightning talks. Maybe some day one lightning talks could be
interesting too for people to do brief manifestos of what th

Does/can debconf offer any help to poor speakers with great ideas?
Like, maybe hooking up a new speaker with an experience speaker to
help draft/review slides, or something like that? Could have some
volunteers available to help folks write good descriptions f
us in advance that the talk would only fill half the time, but
even so. That the breaks between talks were so long this year might
have been a factor.
For topics that need more discussion than can happen in an hour,
having two talks scheduled seemed to work fine for some topics this
year (eg, separat

Here the "worst case" would be 100% take up of travel grants, while your
conservative estimate might just be whatever happened in previous years.

Stylistically, it seems like simplifying it would be an improvement --
there's a lot of stuff there that's kind of useful for doing the

I'm not a fan of the colour scheme either; glad I don't have to part my

FWIW, given there's a "meat+fish"
er approach might be providing a nicer memento to "paying"
attendees. Perhaps everyone gets a debconf t-shirt with sponsors logos, but
professional attendees also get a nice collared shirt/blouse with some
subtle branding as well? Obviously the cost per shirt would want to be much

The first step shouldn't be "limiting" sponsorship, it should be asking
attendees to cover their own costs if possible, with no obligation
whatsoever.

Hey all,
One of the things that's confusing me about the bidding this year is
the "do or die" attitude that we seem to have gotten to; I've heard
suggestions from both teams now that if they don't get DebConf 7 they're
going to give up and not try again.
That seems a bit crazy to me -- it's just
omething that will be
completed in a couple of hours -- what I'm hoping is that we'll be able
to come up with a range of aspects of DebConf that people appreciate;
and a range of problems people have had with past DebConfs, and that we
will be able to poll past attendees to determine whi

The list of other conferences at

to work out a date for DebConf7 next year. Currently, June/July looks like:
