Just to clarify some of the half answers posted previously:
The wires from the panels to the charge controller must be sized to handle
the short circuit current of the entire array (additive if parallel array).
Because the maximum current under normal conditions is often ~95% of short
circuit curr
Thanks, Riley, for the information. This answered my question.

Everyone OK in the Gulf area?
BTW, either a storm jib or storm jib + triple reefed main works for me in 50.
50 foot waves though ………..I think I would pass on that one! That is almost
mast height! YIKES! I have never been in waves higher than the boat is long and
look to continue that trend.
Has anyone ever tried Boric Acid for spiders?
We have gobs of them here on the lakes.
Practical Sailor just had some discussion on using this for Cockroaches, and I
see now, silverfish and water bugs – but I see no mention of spiders.
I am trying to get away from spider spray, for obvious re
I do not know about using Boric Acid with spiders, but I know my brother is
in Dunkirk, NY and they have mucho spiders there. He uses peppermint oil,
and it seems to work pretty well. He dabs soaked cotton balls around the
compalionway, hatches, and portholes, and I believe docklines.

I have been told that boric acid works because it clings to their legs
.However spiders do not clean their legs so they do not ingest it.Might
want to research and confirm. We use spider spray and dryer sheets .

Boric acid is very effective, but the spiders have to come into direct
contact with it for it to work. I use it in the garden and it protects
against all but squirrels and neglect. Spiders may be less likely to wander
into it though.
For backpacking, I spray permethrin on shoes/pants to knock out
I once threw the same spider overboard 4 times. He could stay on the surface
and would make his way back to the dinghy, climb in, and follow the painter
back aboard. I finally decided he could stay if he was that determined to go
sailing!

Sorry folks, but due to an important family situation, I have to cancel
tomorrow’s Zoom Rendezvous.
Hopefully I’ll be able to get it scheduled for next week.
Stay safe ‘n’ healthy

Thank you, I will also try the peppermint oil.
Practical Sailor also suggested Rosemary oil, mixed with vinegar, and squirt it
on the dock lines, They said it won’t kill the spiders, but they don’t like it
and won’t walk over it. But I couldn’t find any at Walmart.
And yes, spiders kill bu
To update you on the dryer sheets, around here people use them to stop mice
moving in to their boats and all, well I was just in working on a snowmobile
groomer and it was full of dryer sheets, and as I lifted the console to check
on some wiring there was a family of 6 mice nestled in the dryer

panes of glass in the master bedroom and the top 15-20 feet of a large oak tree
in the front yard bent over but stayed in the tree. Lots of br
You mentioned that you don’t want to use the spider spray, but this one
(Bug-Tek) is less toxic and does not hurt the environment that much. And it is
pretty effective. I use it to spray the dock lines - if they cannot get through
the lines, they have to swim to the boat or fly (I know some can

I am old enough to know I did not like the looks of Ida when it was a
tropical wave in the Caribbean . I secured Briar Patch Thursday removing
both sails and doubled lines. I left town for my son's home in Greenville,
SC. The newly completed yacht harbor has floating docks. They really take

We just had Henri pass nearby last week, but it was nothing like what hit you.
Here is a photo looking out from the beach near our club into the mooring field
at the height of the storm (from CNN). Aries is invisible in the background.
No damage to report.

On Thursday I secured Briar Patch l. Removed main and Genoa and doubled dock
lines. The new harbor is floating docks with perhaps 18 feet rise. It takes
some of the anxiety out of hurricanes.
I left Friday for my son’s home in Greenville SC. I am old enough that I never
liked Ida from the time
Dennis, Ed, glad to hear things aren’t worse. Please do update us on your
boats when you can.
Meanwhile I have kinfolk in Metarie and Walker. Haven’t heard from Metarie
yet, but lots of downed trees in Walker, and no power or water.
Cheers,

Ken Caryl,
Glad to hear all are ok. Out here on the west coast I would like a little bit
of your wind. Sailind down to San Diego in 2-10kts of wind makes for a long
motor. Heading out the Straits of Juan de Fuca we beat head on into 19kts of
wind. Turned the corner at Cape Flattery today, we were able to s
