Thank you, I will also try the peppermint oil. Practical Sailor also suggested Rosemary oil, mixed with vinegar, and squirt it on the dock lines, They said it won’t kill the spiders, but they don’t like it and won’t walk over it. But I couldn’t find any at Walmart.
And yes, spiders kill bugs, and so do Purple Martins, and I am happy to have them both around doing what they do. Just so long as they don’t live and shit on my boat. Like bats, they do their job, then go back to their caves and Belfries. I forgot about dryer sheets, I used to use those below, now I can’t remember if it was for the smell or spiders . . . And Joe, nothing brings me more joy than throwing a spider in the water, and watching a deserving fish gobble him up! He uses peppermint oil, and it seems to work pretty well. He dabs soaked cotton balls around the compalionway, hatches, and portholes, and I believe docklines. We have gobs of them here on the lakes. Practical Sailor just had some discussion on using this for Cockroaches, and I see now, silverfish and water bugs – but I see no mention of spiders. I am trying to get away from spider spray, for obvious reasons, and this looks like a much more friendly alternative, but if it won’t work, well then . . . I guess back to the drawing board.
