I was ordering some onboard spare parts for my Universal 25XPB diesel when
I couldn't find a part number for the foam pre-filter element that goes on
the outside of the metal air intake screem assembly. In my research I
found a thread about an OEM metal intake screen assembly that had
deteriorated
Andy,
Do you know how much he wants for the rig?

Dennis, I have had a K&N filter on ours for probably 8 years now. They claim
the technology provides better air flow than the OEM filter too. To build on
your post, I installed a small automotive air/oil separator from Jegs on the
crank case breather hose to eliminate fine mist and oil odour in
For a road going car I would not use a K&N filter, as they let too much
dirt through, though for an on-board marine diesel, I see no issues. Likely
better than the original. I know on gas motors they require a metal flame
arrester, but that is not required on a diesel.

I think he's pretty flexible. I'd come over and make an decent offer. I'll be
back around the 13th.
Shall we grab Harry and get lunch or a cocktail after work that week?
I need to go over dropping my rudder with you.

Paul, that's interesting. More research turned up this:

Doesn't speak highly of K&N filters. H.

Len, I have the same setup as you on my universal M-35. I connected the output
of the Jeg air/oil filter to a rigid part of the K&N air filter so the engine
breath back the crank case vapor. I used to have oily odor in the cabin after
motoring before that.

Doug,
I'd do some more research first. I found several articles supporting K&N
products. However, none seemed to have data.

Dennis, one of the biggest reasons for getting rid of the k&nd is living aboard
I have no place to wash them. Plus the one on my truck went through a carb
fire.

Dennis;
You may recall that I became a Yanmar & Cummins certified diesel technician
while I was doing technical training in the industrial equipment industry. As a
result I abhor dust. A factory or an dusty work yard are a lot more severe than
the environment in our engine compartment, but e
