Dennis;

You may recall that I became a Yanmar & Cummins certified diesel technician
while I was doing technical training in the industrial equipment industry. As a
result I abhor dust. A factory or an dusty work yard are a lot more severe than
the environment in our engine compartment, but even a small amount of dust can
play hell with the valves and the rings of a diesel engine. The forklift
manufacturer I worked for spent several hundred thousand dollars replacing
“dusted” Cummins engines that resulted from a small crack in the air intake
hose that resulted from improper assembly.

Consequently I wanted to eliminate the oiled metal filter on the Universal M35B
in Imzadi. Just happens that the Beta diesels are based on the same Kubota
engines as the Universals – at least for the recent models. The 4 cylinder 35HP
Beta is the same basic Kubota engine as my M35B. Ditto for the three cylinder
engines. I bought a Beta Marine air cleaner housing (which was a bit pricey)
which uses a replaceable automotive paper air cleaner element.

Not as cheap as the K&N alternative, but you might want to look into that.

Paul, that's interesting. More research turned up this:

Doesn't speak highly of K&N filters. Hmmmm.
