I reprinted my pedestal circa 208 or 2009 when I was replacing the idler
sheaves that are mounted on the plate below the cockpit sole. I did it off the
boat and my pedestal is white (so less heat to impact the paint) but I have
been pleased with the result and no current indication of decay in t
I don't know anything about this boat but, I used to keep my last boat at the
Swansea Marina and it is pretty close by if I can help in any way. I do have
friend still at the Swansea Marina. If that is where the boat is, I bet he
could find some things out about it.

I am guessing they stripped the old ones with an acidic process, and it left
the surface rough.
I would have been better off sanding them all down instead of having them
strip them.
People in the plating business don't recommend black anodizing, because it
does not last near as long as the natural
After doing some research on that I decide to use the Birchwood Super
Black Gun Touch Up Pen. It is a paint pen specifically designed to touch-up
anodizing on guns and it does a wonderful job on aluminum. I've used it on
the toe rail and on the eye for the stern dock lines.
I bought it on Amaz
Does anyone happen to have an old hatch model 200 laying around? Somehow
the frame broke coming back from Bermuda.

Painted my black pedestal white using Brightside Matterhorn White in 2002. I
have two small chips after all these years, but easily painted when I get
around to it. Other prioities.
I think any good quality paint by Interlux or even Rustoleum will work well as
long as you prep the metal first
Hi David,
Curious why your complaint of pointing seems focused on the rig?
What is your tacking angle? It should be 90 degrees or less.
Write down your compass headings on each tack next time sailing and see what
angles you are actually sailing?
How far from center is the helm? How many spokes
Well my black anodizing lasted 37 years - how bad can it be?

I just had mine powder coated, no issues. And the Edson instructions
Steven cited say the pedestals are powder coated. So I think those
fears are unfounded.
Previous boat - I had the pedestal Awlgrip'd, it came out well but I
chipped the damn paint while installing it. Powder coating was 1/
Might also want to note the difference in course over ground on each tack.
Comparing the tacking angle (heading) vs tacking angle (course made good)
may indicate show excessive leeway. That may indicate sails trimmed too
much, excess heel, etc.
I don't have a good feel for an acceptable leeway fo
Another option if you decide to remove the pedestal to have it painted, price a
new pedestal, maybe the newer style? Just sayin.

This is a little off topic but somehow we can make this C&C related. Why do
Nautor Swan sailboats cost so much money? I understand they're very well built
boats however a 35-year-old Swan still costs over 20 times more than a C&C of
comparable size. Blisters and all!
