I was sailing aboard The Office, a 35 MK III, last week and really liked the
6:1 Garhauer mainsheet system. My boat has the stock 3:1 system that runs
forward to the mast and then aft to a cabin top winch. If I had this 6:1 system
I could adjust the main from the helm, which would be nice. Does

Joe,
I'd be interested to understand this system for my 35mk III. Had it been
changed to boom end sheeting and a corresponding change on traveller location?
Else how was the sheet made in easy reach of the helm?

The MK III is not in reach of the helm, the traveler is forward of the
companionway. My boat – a MK I – has end-boom sheeting and the traveler is
right ahead of the wheel.
Speaking of which – the 35 MK II and some 40s have the traveler right aft of
the companionway. I always wondered how you ri
My 35-3 has been changed to have the traveler on the bridge deck. Great for

remember sailing in Turkey when I was 16; a girl on a boat nearby was killed in
exactly that way.

In theory, we're handicapping the boat so the skipper and crew win or lose the
race. (Not wanting to start a thread on the inadequacies of PHRF or other
handicap methods).
For an overall trophy, I think it makes sense to count all races on both boats.
We're just doing this for fun, right?

On my old C&C 24 I had the traveller aft of the companion way (almost a foot
aft). It was great for handling the main (I also had a good Harken traveller
car there), but it was a major pain for anyone going inside. My admiral hated
it. To the point that the hard requirement for the new(er) boat

I think that's the nub. It might be nice for that skipper, but I think you
might find that some of the other skippers might have a problem with it, even

Rob, thank you for organizing this event! We had a lovely time amongst some
great boats and people. Apologies for not managing to empty the keg; will try
harder next time.

Disagree.
We are YACHT racing, not SKIPPER racing. Once you let one guy slide on the
rules, you have to let the next guy do it too. If I had two boats and I saw
one person get by with multi-boat scoring I would damn well insist that I get
to do it too.

The problem you're facing is that in trying to be "fair" to one person, you are
being unfair to everyone else.

I replaced the portlights on my C&C 33 MKII using plexus MA300 and had no
more problem out of them for 3 yrs after when I sold the boat. I do happen
to have the Special gun required for the adhesive. A SuperMix II pneumatic
gun. I would be willing to sell the gun if anyone needs it.

I agree with you about sharpshooting the system by using multiboats.
That's not what's happening here as I understand it. He's just moving on to
another boat.
This is club racing; we get too legalistic and then wonder why people don't
want to play. Keep it fun and give the guy a break.

Lori and I had a great time as well. Thanks to Rob and the other organizers for a great event. I think the C&C hats and engraved plaques was a particular unexpected bonus. Touring all the other boats was a special treat. It was our first cruise and our first cruise on our "new" boat and we lear

That's why I mentioned skipper and crew.

As close as I can measure, it is 1 1/2 in diameter.
I have to say it really is the boat your racing. We all get the boat certified

I had a traveller forward of the companionway on my previous 34 and now my newer 34+. On the 34, I added a triple block with becket and cam (Lewmar) on the traveller so I had 6:1 up and down to the boom. It worked much more smoothly than going around all the corners of the stock arrangement. I r
