At my Club we score the boat not the skipper - allowing for the boat to be
sailed with different skippers (some are official partnerships, others informal
arrangements) Of course humans and not boats attend the Awards Ceremony, so
the boats representatives (skippers) collect the trophies (which by the way are
engraved with boat names not skipper names)

While we do have a Club Championship award, taking account performance over the
entire season (I could see an argument giving this to a skipper who changed
boats) we spilt our big boat Wednesday night races into 3 series. So an owner
can change boats mid season and be scored for the series with the boat sailed.
