Bad connections and deviations above 3 can screw it up, that was a problem
on mine anyway.I seem to recall 5 wires from the fluxgate compass at the
control head and I believe the ground wire was the culprit.I also had higher
than 3 or deviation check but I finally got that right

Joel,
I have two fluxgate sensors. One for the KVH Sailcomp and one for the
Raymarine autopilot. The KVH came with the boat and has the best sensor
position, low in the boat and just to the port side of the mast. I'm not
sure if I would want to place the other sensor in the same compartment.
$2500 sounds about right - for a dacron RF sail from your local loft.
Seems to me that if you are not using your local North loft there is not
much point in using North via the NS Direct. Just my opinion.
Headsail on the 32 will be your most expensive sail.

I recall paying around $7000 for 2 170 genoas around 1988 or 1989 (eek!).
We got a roller furling genoa shortly after that and the 170s have probably
left their bags maybe 20 times from 1989 to 2013 too. Not exactly the best
investment ..

A 'radial' cut sail will be more expensive than a 'cross cut' sail for
two simple reasons:
1. more material needed to make the sail
2. more labor intensive to make the sail

I understand that the original request was from Toronto.
My recommendation is Evolution Sails. The sails are still made locally and
John Dakin is great.

Brad and Nathan have treated me well, very good sails at a good price and
good service, no complaints from me about the Doyle loft in Dartmouth... I
would go back to them, without my asking, Brad also suggested some good
rigging and trim tips too

Hi,
I recently contacted Raymarine regarding my over shooting X-5 autopilot
problems. The Tech stated that it sounded like a compass problem and that I
could test the fluxgate compass by measuring the resistance across various
wires. Below are the procedures for given by the Raymarine tech.
Thanks all.
I spoke to Greg at Evolution, he was the easiest to speak with out of the

North Direct option. Lee came in the highest at $2700.

Oh yeah, Cross Cut Challenge 6.63 is being recommended. I think I've read
positive things about the challenge sail cloth.

My 35lb CQR is held onto the anchor roller with the pin. I haven't yet used
the damn thing so that's all I can contribute at this point.

The issue of the Autohelm deciding to take a turn
randomly is a problem I have worked on. It may be
that the fluxgate compass is the cause, either the
unit itself, wiring or external interference.
First step is to follow the calibration instructions,

Try SAHANA. Supposedly three A's are very good luck. Easier to spell too..

Steve, I know your boat and the late previous owner. The name was on there when
he bought the boat and he didn't care for it much either but never did anything
about it.

If you spell Sea Swan backwards it looks very close to Nausea.
Just a thought.

Following up on the recent thread on the current state of low boat pricesin
particular when financing an older boat is difficult.
Was at my club tonight talking with a friend who recently sold his older
trawler. Got a good price and sold it quickly. How did he do it in today's boat
market?
Hi all,
I have recently been following some of the threads on this site and would like
to get more involved. I am original owner of 1979 LF 38 #8 and would really
like to correspond with other LF 38 owners. I am going thru another refit of
