We use a Lifeproof case which has been very good so far. An advantage is
that the case seals to the iPad screen so there are no layers to change the
characteristics of the display, and I see they now have a life jacket
available which gives full buoyancy. No mounts yet unfortunately.

My Raymarine 7000 (underdeck) has performed flawlessly for years. Would'nt be
without it. Two keys to its success. IUstalled properly (rudder sensor etc)
and sized properly.

Obsession had a Autohelm 20+ year old on her when we bought it. It is the same
as the X5 unit. It worked fine for us for over a year and I assume for the
previous owner on Lake Erie. My boat has very little weather helm, so I think
the weight limit is not a problem. The Autohelm's brain box di
Pete, Why would you say that? I researched the hell out of autopilots before
buying mine (as I do with everything...I can be a little obsessive) and it
became apparent to me that, you really get a lot of bang for your buck and
people that own them are generally very happy with them. Hell, ther
Hi Harry, Yeah I'm familiar with the condition that effects Aquidneck

planning and anxiety and should never be undertaken as a day trip. LOL

When I purchased my Raymarine ST 4000 plus MKII wheel pilot I think the
below deck units were much more than twice as expensive, like 3 to 4 times.
Does anyone know if the newer Raymarine X-5 sail wheel pilot offers big
advantages over the ST 4000 plus MkII?

I find the autopilot is my most used accessory. I wouldn't want to leave the
dock without it. I installed an ST 4000plus wheelpilot 11 years ago, soon after
buying the boat. I didn't make any adjustments but followed directions and went
sailing with it right after. Changed the belt last year, as
Josh,
I have the AP200DL with a hydraulic drive under the deck and a wired remote.
The display is partially blacked out and two of the knobs just spin without
really engaging.
There appears to be several things wrong with it. The last time I used it and
it worked was 2007. The next time I tr
You can often reuse the drive with a different controller. I think a friend may
have one for sale if you can wait a couple of weeks for me to get back from a

I had a discussion about below deck vs. wheel mounted autopilots with the
president of Edson at Strictly Sail Chicago. He makes an argument that a
below deck unit that does not depend on the wheel steering system is a big
advantage. He feels that on many boats the autopilot will be the most

With any manufacturer, there will always be a small percentage of customers who
have less than satisfactory experiences. Raymarine has a huge market share,
perhaps 80%, based on figures from a few years back, so there will always be a
few malcontents around, many with justifiable reasons.

FYI, Defender Sale ends at midnight, tonight.
Just ordered $900 from Defender: bottom paint, zincs, new cam cleats, snatch
blocks, twing blocks, and a TackTick Mast Bracket.
Saved $350 on price and $63 on tax. Shipping will add $24 back.
I should order another set of foulies, but ran out of r

This was our thinking when we installed an oversized below deck drive on
Calypso. We added a separate tiller arm to the rudder stock just for the
autopilot drive (Whitlock drive, B&G controller). We also bolted the tiller
arm to the quadr

I installed a wheel pilot (xP5) 2 years ago. The belt gave up traction end of
last year. We use it ALOT. I hate steering. Its so/so under full power fine at
80%. Upwind I use the wind vane, love it, set it 5-10' off CH corse. Good up to
12kt or so. I use it to set the kite (don't tell the RC).
Don,
I had a similar issue with the cracking right in the threads of the tank
exit which led to dripping, smell, mess and a demand from the Admiral. I
solved as follows: bought a Cockpit drain fitting- 1-1/2- got one of the
'l-head' ones. These have the opening offset so when mounted horizontally
My Autohelm 4000+ gets a workout every summer. We motor to Solomons and
back, 13 hours each way. It usually does a pretty good job, but once in a
while makes a 90 turn and tries to run us aground. I like it, but I also
need to keep an eye on it.

Hi Fellow List Members,
My husband and my C&C 30 had the misfortune of being totaled during
Superstorm Sandy. We are now left with a collection of C&C 30 sails that we
would love to give away to anyone willing to come pick them up(we live in

Hi Ryan,
I had the clutch release problem with our Autohelm wheel pilot. I added a short
cord with a loop to hold it in. Later discovered I wasn't setting the clutch
lever all the way and once I adjusted the screw, I was able to set the lever
past the knubs and she stays set. I keep the loop in
You can use West System GFlex epoxy to repair a polyethylene holding tank. It

I can understand why Pete would say such a thing.

Wasn't there some discussion a few months ago about this and someone suggested
it might be a motor, like perhaps a domestic water pump kicking on and off,

I would suspect the fluxgate compass may be located in a bad place on the boat
