Hey Listers,
What are your favorite bilge pumps?
I think I’m pretty done with RuleMate 1100s. I’ve had really mixed experiences
with their reliability.
I’m general I’d prefer an automatic pump so I don’t have to fuss with a float
switch, but I could relent on that.
Thanks,

Practical Sailor had an article recently about bilge pumps and I have three
questions.
1. They recommended two electric pumps: a lower capacity automatic as deep in
bilge as possible and a second higher capacity wired to a switch higher up. I
am unconvinced by the logic. I have had an automa
Edd,
IMHO, Rule makes very reliable bilge pumps.

Listers,
Looks like one of my Rule bilge pumps just burnt out and I'm shopping for a
replacement. My hoses are 3/4".
Between the many manufacturers out there (Rule, Attwood, Johnson, Jabsco,
etc.), does anyone have any recommendations of any particular manufacturer or
model?

Thanks for your input.
I know that there is only one intake in the bilge; so after your
advice, I will now set about to re-plumb them separately. I still
may feed them to one thru-hull, however.I would envision making
up a fitting from a "Y" where the single line is connected to the

Watching the thread on bilge pumps, I have a related question.
My '77 38MKII has two Whale Gusher manual pumps; one mounted next to
the galley foot pump and one mounted in the side of the port cockpit

There is only one exit for both pumps?
nd we can chat
further.

James,
I don't like the Rule automatic bilge pumps.
I prefer a bilge pump with separate float switch. I've found the Rule bilge
pumps to be very reliable but have seen failures with the Rule-A-Matic float
switches.
There are reliable float switches on the market. Check out:
