I believe the PHRF narrative used to say that the numbers were based on at
least 50% windward work. So w/l courses were covered as well as olympic, but
single triangles would not be good for the handicap numbers. However, since the
numbers are averaged over all winds, clearly they aren't meant

J boats used to go the other way and tell PHRF a high number so folks sailing
the boat would do well. The classic was the J22 when it first came out; Jboats
suggested a number of 192. What we saw was a boat as fast as the J24,
especially in light airs. The J24 was 174.Since the winning boat
I've heard of folks replacing the mast with a "D" section type and double
spreaders, along with a little extra height. Less weight aloft would keep it
more upright to carry more sail area and more sail area would give a nice boost
to acceleration after a tack, not to mention top speed for any
I have a 30-1 shoal draft. It's only 6-9in shorter, depending on where one
gets the info. It's also hundres of pounds heavier. C&C did that to keep the
righting moment the same I believe.RonWild CheriC&C 30-1STL

Not computer savy enough to search archives, but I seem to recall an email

Same happened to a friend with an old Jeep truck. Smoked so bad he could fog
for misquitoes. That's why I wondered if the same would be true for an old
diesel in a boat.RonWild CheriC&C 30-1STL

I'd been told by a mechanic, that one shouldn't put 100% synthetic oil in an
old vehicle that had been using regular oil all its life. The claim was that
it would clean the engine too good and it would start leaking. It's highly
recommended for newer cars of course.I would presume the same would
Different boat, but my 30 has a screw cap that one fills with grease. Then
periodically turns the cap to push more into the column. A pain to get to.

Downside of jib alone is tacking as mentioned. We often end up tacking
through 130deg and then have to claw our way back to closehauled. Still worth
it as my wife and I can easily handle 25+ winds. And she's no spring

35-2 is not only a beautiful boat, but also sails very well. Raced on one for

like Dennis and others have.RonWild CheriC&C 30-1STL
