I actually prefer the knot over the splice because it prevents the halyard from
getting stuck up in the sheave opening...I had that happen some time ago, and
it's a royal pain...!I don't think the loss in line strength is enough to cause
issues.. the cover will wear out before the line breaks...
Dennis, thanks for the heads up! I will be interested to so how he fares!

Joe, I feel your pain!: My insurance Co. (BoatUS-Geico) made me remove my CNG
tank because it wasn't in a dedicated locker...we don't cook onboard much so it
wasn't a big deal, but I wasn't happy about it; the regs allow a CNG tank under
100 cubic feet; you will be better off with propane;

Dave, that looks really good to me! I'm sure Dennis or others can advise
about the gelcoat, but I could live with it that way; Is you new winch an
electric winch? What does the underside look like? are there any exposed bolts
in the cabin? Thanks

Dennis, thanks; we are blessed in that the repair shop here does have a such a
person; would you recommend that the hull should be repainted with Awlcraft
over the existing Awlgrip?

Dennis and David; are Awlcraft and Awlgrip the same or similar products? I am
in the process of having repairs done to my hull; it was painted with Awlgrip
in 2013; any suggestions? Thanks
