Rich,
You are correct. Reverse polarity will apply a massive forward current
through the diode bridge in the rectifier assembly. Usually the diodes melt
forming a short circuit. That can actually be a good thing because it may
protect other electronics by limiting the reverse voltage. Hope y

Actually, I thought that the alternator diodes were a likely possibility.
I told Steve (who really should join this list) that he should pull the
alternator and have it tested at NAPA. Cheaper than a Yanmar wrench!

The PO connected one of the battery's in my boat backwards because the
terminals were mislabeled. It fried the alternator and caused the buzzer to
buzz until the alternator was disconnected. I hope that's not your friends

I believe the J/111 will rate 36 this year, probably lower next year.
There were a couple of "comments" about its performance. I race on a Swan
42 that rates -3. Those C&C 41 & J/40 numbers look pretty slow compared to
that!

Very cool. I saw the previous Rambler 100 in Newport Harbor a few years ago
getting ready for the Transat the summer her keel fell off and she rolled over.
She was sharing a slip with iCap Leopard not far from the Maltese Falcon.

I like the C&C racer/cruiser line of boats because of the dual purpose idea and
they are well built and respected. My boat has taught me a great deal about
