That is bizarre, that he took a (probably) perfectly good rudder off and replaced it with that - it looks like the wall thickness of the carbon fiber tube is less than that of the original SS. I would think you would want double the thickness of the SS in the CF. At least where it exits the hull

I solved mine by replacing it with a plug. Now I just unbolt it at the end of the season to drain it. I couldn't find a replacement with out getting a Yanmar original, but didn't like the price, so I found a plug that worked. If I get back to it, I may continue looking for a valve of some type

Believe the current ISAF regs require 50% of the storm jib to be a highly visible color. Would have thought that having a colored patch sewn on by a local sailmaker would have been a pretty inexpensive option. Storms sails built in 2014 have to be 100% highly colored - but sails built before then
