I tried all variations - sa
nvert-ly.py: error: : Unable to open file
convert-ly.py: error: : Unable to open file
convert-ly.py: error: : Unable to open file
anything known about that?

and in the affected context I removed the corresponding engraver - which
works perfectly but eliminates the possibility to use laisser vibrer.
what's the correct way to associate empty music - I guess that's what's
needed here - to these variables?
thanks for any improvements on the

there are errors (under Windows 7):
programming error: Not a music type
continuing, cross fingers
with version 2.17.23 there is even a crash.
is something wrong with the function or is it a bug in windows?

the odd thing is you have to find a fitting integer.
in our case only the value #0 is satisfying.
#1 leads to the cropping behavior
#-1 has the bar line drawn through the text

I don't see what you're trying to do - can you draw an outline or scan an
example!?
here is a small example how I would write a 2-voice staff:
\new Staff <<
\new Voice {
\voiceOne
a
w.png
<http://lilypond.1069038.n5.nabble.com/file/n148497/test4.preview.png>
but strangely if I change the code of the 1st staff to
\new Staff \relative c' {
s4 s s 4 _"wh"
q8 q4 q8 q2
}
the flags and stems are cropped wit 2.17.18 too! test4-
with the code - admittedly wrong because of the 6 16's -
\tuplet 5/4 4 { c16 c c c c c}
LP exits without any message in the log
I couldn't find a corresponding entry in the tracker.

additionally you can also change the markup-system spacing:
\paper {
markup-system-spacing = #'(
(basic-distance . 0)
(minimum-distance . 0)
(padding . .5)
(stretchability . 1)
)
}
