lilypond-book eps is too big for letterpaper

I think your problem is a general Linux issue, nothing specific to Ghostscript or LilyPond. When you start a program, the loader looks for libraries that have to be loaded dynamically. A number of directories are searched by default, including /usr/lib/ and /lib/. Read the man pages for ld.so and
