the Ghostscript package on LilyPond.org was compile on FC3, so I guess I have to make a separate FC4 ghostscript.

A number of directories are searched by default, including /usr/lib/ and /lib/. Read the man pages for ld.so and ldconfig and possibly some FAQ for your 64bit system to learn how to make the loader search in the desired directory. /Mats
