I am running current CVS. Per discussion a day or so ago, I added
'Prefer Mounted Volumes = no' to my JobDefs tonight, reloaded, and ran a
couple of backups that I know use different volumes. The new parameter
made no difference; drive 0 was unloaded each time and only it was
used. Snippets

Hi,
I have a bacula setup on my network using File as Storage device.
Well, everything works fine and I used to write the files on CD or DVD
but now the FULL backup file is too big to fit on a DVD and I have to
split it.
Well the problem is that I have to first write the backup to disk and

If I'm not mistaken -- and I may well be -- this, or a problem similar
to this, was corrected in a later version of Bacula. I'd recommend
testing on 1.38.11.

Well, Hardware compression is done in the tape hardware

[Background]
Our configuration has two pools: Full and Incremental. Incremental and
differential backups are run nightly, writing to the "Incremental" pool. Full
backups are done monthly, writing to the "Full" pool.
Incremental backups are retained for 2 weeks, and full backups are retained for

I tried it, and it just keeps backing up to the same tape day after day,
and it's still marked as "append".

Probably.
The safest action is to NEVER insert a new tape be
Hi Ian,
you are correct. Bacula does not have a specific
backup agent for Oracle, and the only way to back up
an Oracle database is the good old BEGIN BACKUP/END
BACKUP procedure.
I wrote a piece about the way I run such a backup at
my workplace. You can read it in

Hi.
Is it possible to fetch entire configuration resources from database, ie. by
executing commands, just like including.
I tried putting "| some-command" into bacula-dir.conf, but it didn't work. Can
it be done in some other way?

Hi, I'm asking this again, maybe someone can help.
I'm having problems with a job that backs up an Oracle (8i) DB on a OpenSuSE
10.1 (bacula-fd 1.38.9)
The jobs executes the "/etc/init.d/oracle stop" (provided by
orarun-1.8-109.15, rpm) with a Client Run Before Job, and "/etc/init.d/oracle

I am running such backup. You just have to have another server where to
send your bacula volumes for storage.
you have couple options here
1. Encrypt Bacula volume(s) with GnuPG and transfer over the network.
Just search Google for Bacula and GnuPG together. I wrote a guide on how
to do it a while
I have checked out the FAQs and the documentation, but perhaps I missed something or haven't looked closely enough. I was wondering if it is currently possible for Bacula to backup an Oracle database. This is a production database and I am running Bacula 1.38.11. From what I have found, it seem

Yes, that makes libpq thread-safe. Most distributions do this by default
today, but if you build from source I think it's off by default.

ehmit may be, but I would rather solve this on postgres, anyway.
