Howdy. I have been staring longingly at the Ardour site for a while and
finally decided to try to get ALSA working with my Audiophile USB so I could
try it out. Up this point, I have been able to use my Audiophile USB with no
problems at all in KDE via arts (except that recording does not work

Howdy and thanks for the response.
I tried the above but I had the wonderful situation of being told that "alsa
isn't running" followed by "alsa already r
Any tips appreciated.

Howdy. I gave up a little while back trying to get the M-Audio Audiophile USB
working under my Gentoo install because I needed audio badly and didn't have
the time to fight with it righ then. The OSS compatible USB audio driver
works just fine for playback so I took the easier route since I had
alsa to work properly.
Despite the fact the guy is an idiot for his list behaviour, I'm not (a moron
maybe but not an idiot) and I couldn't get ALSA working with my Audiophile
USB either. From the general traffic on this list I would say a lot of
people do not find ALSA a simple way
t because of the state of the documentation (and not
wanting to break my existing fragile partial OSS / ALSA setup).
But I will keep trying and I do have hope that this situation can get
better.

Howdy. I've read here that the M-Audio USB does not follow the USB
specification as far as the recording side of things is concerned. So far
all I have heard is fairly vague complaints - the little endian / big endian
issue (not convinced this against specification yet myself), asynchronous

Howdy. I have been futzing around with my M-Audiophile USB for way too long
now trying to get it to work reliably under Linux and as luck would have it,
my old Windows install blew up today so now I am totally fubar for recording
my tracks until I get this fixed.

Howdy. I'll hold my frustration inside but I wanted to let people know that
despite a report to the contrary on the linux-usb site, the Edirol UA-1X does
not appear to function with Alsa.
Under kernel 2.6.1 the device actually causes a hang both on boot and shutdown

I am guessing this happens in .asoundrc but the docs for this don't once
mention "volume" or "level".
Any help appreciated.

if I can just get that to compile properly under gentoo with 2.6.3
(failed with unknown symbol errors last time I tried if memory serves).

Howdy. This may seem obvious but just in case (I couldn't make it out from
your hardware listing), are you sure that your USB interface actually has a
mixer on it? Not all do. It may b
