I am installing alsa i got it from CVS after i installed one from a tarball...
it build ok and installed..
i rebuilt the kernel
now when i cat /proc/asound/version it says ":

I have a Soundblaster32 ISA PnP card that does not seem to want to
work with ALSA. The card is functional as it works fine in Windows
(as much as I hate to use Windows as a benchmark of functionality).
With Linux/ALSA, the card is on interrupt 9 and in Windows, it's on
interrupt 5. I wa

that worked, it's a digital rather than analog adj
I started with suse 7.1, upgraded the kernel then upgraded to 2.4.21 and
tried to get 0.9.4 alsa to work
I compiled alsa-driver with ./configure --with-isapnp=yes
-with-sequencer=yes -with-oss=yes
and I get (dmesg)

DIN. I can see the keyboard sending carrier & MIDI data under minicom at
34800 8N1 w/HW flow control.

I have a ASUS A7V8X-X motherboard with an onboard SoundMax AD1980
Via8233 AC97 soundcard.
I compiled alsa 0.9.6 with my 2.4.21 kernel and I had no problems.
However when I start the machine I get this rather strange error
messages:
ALSA ../alsa-kernel/pci/via82xx.c:503: codec_valid: codec 0
support isn't finished?
But I still get the error message:
