Well, it is required to be run when the device files in /dev/snd don't
yet exist.. I don't know about devfs though..

So I got this nice soundcard, 'aureal vortex 8820'.
But now I don't find what modules to select in kernel for this card?
Kernel version is 2.6.1

How do you come to this conclusion. If you didn't have alsa installed
before on that machine and your distribution did not already create the
device files, you need to create them.. eithe

Dear list members,
I have an Abit IS7E mobo, with 5.1 onboard audio.
The mobo has Intel ICH5 chipset, Realtek ALC650rev0 AC97 codec according
to the alsamixer.
My problem is that the mic input is noisy. I need mic input badly for
gnomeeting.
It is NOT noisy under Windows with the same HW se

Howdy. Recently Frank Barknecht I believe was running tests on a number
of USB based audio interfaces to see which worked with the 2.6 kernel and

Interesting. Yeah, that one looks like a very good choice. So I
assume it's no problem to output to address the outputs as separate
stereo channels? I guess the only thing that would be better would be

Dave,
I have Terratec Aureon 7.1 Space (it was $111 for me). It has ALSA support (ice1724
driver).
The card has 4 stereo outputs (one of them has phone aplifier), or, if you want, 8
independant
analogue outputs. Attention: it seems (for me, at least :-), the card has 2 ADCs only.
The card is 24/

Hi,
you're saying it's possible. But do I have to do something else (I have a

something? If I set xmms to play on rear, it plays visually, but I get no
sound on second connector. How do I change/switch linein to be rear out
Can anyone point me to a usb/cardbus device with 44.1khz digital output that
will work with the 2.6 kernel?
I checked the ALSA soundcard matrix but it just shows a generic EZ-USB page
for every USB product. There also appear to be various incompatibilities
with the 2.6 kernel.
Thanks in advanc

well, at least it doesn't do any harm (provided you didn't change any
permissions on the audio-devices, because they will be reset), so I

Even if I do this (--with-card=au8820) the script wants to compile
modules for every possible card.
Is support for Aureal 8820 in any newer kernel release?
That driver is not in the kernel source. You need to get alsa source
and configure with --with-card=au8820.

I'm using Libranet 2.8.1, I installed ALSA shortly after installing the
OS. I have a ASUS A7V8X-X, it detected as a AC'97 card and installed
the via82cxxx drivers. Sound worked fine once I updated ALSA to

I am having troubles with my intel8x0 onboard sound ( Intel Corp. 82801EB AC'97

It works great in kernel 2.6.0-mm1, which i beleive has alsa-driver-0.9.7.
However, I have attempted upgrading to both 2.6.2 and 2.6.3, and in both i have
a problem with the driver. When
