i updated cmipci driver on cvs.
possibly the bug is fixed there.
you'll need to turn on "IEC958 Out To DAC" together with
"IEC958 Output Switch".
please note that some big changes for alsa structure has been done on
the current cvs version.
the driver codes are included in alsa-kernel

I have a cmi 8738 card and would like to use the spdif in/out
features. The driver from cmi is not ready for this, so I downloaded
the last CVS version of alsa; 2002-01-11.tar.bz2, compiled it,
inserted the module trying "playback_spdif=yes" or "spdif_enable=yes"
with no success.
