I have the problematic NeoMagic 256 sound card on a slackware 11.0 Inspiron 3500 and I can't seem to get it to work. I have installed 1.0.13 and have managed to load snd-nm256 by passing the force_ac97=1 option. But still no joy. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get it working? Thanks!

I've got a laptop with a NeoMagic 256 soundcard built in. It pretty much sucks, but it's what I have. Kernel is 2.4.14-pe (Robert Love's preemptive patches). Seems to run fine otherwise. Kernel has modules enabled, sound support enabled but all other sound options disabled. I haven't tried alsa
