I had initially posted this to the alsa-devel list but haven't
received a response and thought that maybe that was the wrong list. If
this is the incorrect place for this please let me know.
I am attempting to upgrade from Ubuntu version 10.04 to version 12.04. Version

Sounds fanatstic. Yes, it sports one 12Au7 tube; haven't tried any

Hi! I'm using an E-MU 1212m card with ALSA. I'm using Linux 2.6.19.1

However, I can't seem to get the ADC to work; it just records silence.
All volume levels are unmuted and turned up. Is this expected
behavior? If not, any thoughts

I find that this only happens when the dmix mixer is being used -- is
there a problem with audio delay measurements in the dmix driver? if
so is there a fix or a workaround that I can implement by changing

If your kernel modules fail to load, it is probably due to OSS drivers

MPlayer may have ALSA default, but it falls back on other drivers if
ALSA fails. I don't think ALSA is really working on your computer, instead, I think
you have OSS loaded, and you need to unload (Or recompile without them installed.)
Then after this is done, you can use the ALSA drivers.
