Hi,
I've a small problem accessing ALSA via the ALSA-api.
I'm using kernel 2.6.3-rc2 and latest stable alsa-libs and utils.
I just switched from devfs to udev. Accessing alsa (playing
some sound) via /dev/dsp* works fine. But for example the

The VIA 686B chip doesn't have a MIDI synthesizer. The MPU-401 port
is used to connect external MIDI devices to your computer.
Thanks, but in that case why does the bios list separate i/o addresses for
mpu-401 and the external
Please could someone shed some light on this for me. I'm running ALSA
0.9.8 with kernel 2.4.22 on a Slackware 9.1 system. I've downloaded a
program called Jorgan: this is a Java program which is supposed to take
MIDI input from my MIDI keyboard and send MIDI to a synthesiser. I wish

Could someone tell me what the critical
settings are for making the mic work.

with the input source settings or something..
thanks

I can't hear any sound trying to play midi directly on my via 686B. Although
I know this may be impossible since the card usually loads some sort of midi
enumerator software to support the card, but one thing has confused me:
rosegarden advised me to use the sfxload program to load a sound font

Hi
I have integrated sound with VIA chipset, 2.4.22
kernel, alsa 1.0.0rc1. My soundcard works , but with
the mixer I have problems. The PCM is boolean, i.e. a
switch only, I can't adjust it to the preferred
volume, it is either on or off. The master volume
slide is adjustable but without any effect

[I've copied the Audacity list for information only. Unless this
really is an audacity bug, I suggest that replies are made to the alsa

Hi all,
I'm an Audacity user ( http://audacity.sourceforge.net ) and with some users ,
we encounter problems since we switched from 0.9.x -> 1.x series , using our
software .
Some of the users tell that the reason would be alsa-oss emulation of the
1.0.x serie wich is a bit broken ... I dont
