thanks for answering; I checked your ideas, this is the result:
There was a reboot of the tl 2 hours before this happened, but all drives
worked fine (succesful archives) after that reboot.
So I don't think the error depends on that.
As the error occured, I did some q in tsm and I found

Hi,
You could use a single commandDISABLE SESSIONS to prevent
client node access o the server.
Then ENABLE SESSIONSwhen reclamation is finished.

One point is missing: you should first update the old server to TSM
5.1.10 and run a "cleanup backupgroups" before you go to version 5.2.x.
Theres a good PowerPoint presentation:

I think this depends on the number of files and the number of backup copies.

Hi Dirk
OK, I'm assuming that in this case I could install 5.1.6.2 on the new
server, restore the dB, upgrade to 5.1.10 and then do the "cleanup
backupgroups" rather than upgrading the old server? The reason being that
as 5.1 is out of support, and as our present server has been running like a

I have just been having a look at the powerpoint presentation and it says
that the 'cleanup backupgroups' job runs as part of an upgrade to 5.2/5.3

However, I have already tested going from 5.1.6.2 to 5.2.2.7 on th

Maybe someone from IBM should answer this. If you have tested the

minutes on our old server, so the upgrade could
I guess an interim upgrade to 5.1.10 and the clean-up will be pretty quick
anyway so maybe I'll do it anyway just to make sure all is as clean as
possible. If something's worth doing...

Hi Del!
Thank you very much for your reply!
Yes, they did add the database to the Recovery Storage Group before
performing the restore and they did select "the this database can be

Hi Eric,
There must be something about the naming that is
confusing the Exchange Server (it is the Exchange Server
that is complaining about database not being found).
In some cases... the mailboxes get created with

Hi *SM-ers!
We have just implemented an archiving server. We only want archives on
this TSM server, so we created policies without a backup copy group.
This however causes the BA GUI to see all files as excluded.
I checked the TSM website and found Technote 1209666

Eric, this sounds like an extended hangover from the initial design --

I'd go along with Richard's suggestion -- set up a minimum size disk

Hi Eric,
I do not understand the problem.
I made a quick attempt to reproduce the problem you are seeing by creating

You might try mapping a drive to where you would like to restore the data:
net use m: \\servername\e$
Then restore to the M: drive.
