Matthew, it looks like this may be a scheduling hiccup between TDP and VSS. The
error indicates VSS is not done with what it was doing and TDP asked it to do
another VSS operation. Interestingly enough, there is a hotfix available for
the very VSS error you get on Server 2012 and VM backups.

Hi, Adrian -
I can't tell from the info, but if all the schedules are using the
same node, filespace, and file names, then you will certainly end up
with a rebinding problem.
Richard Sims
If you truly do only have one node, you have effectively shot yourself
in the proverbial foot - every time you run the tdp to a different mgmt
class it is going to rebind EVERYTHING for that node. So whatever
monthly/yearly backups you had were rebound to the daily class and
expired.

Thank you Del I will try the old version.
For some reason we don't see TSM in our passport adavantage even though we
purchased the thing. That is a complaint for someone else.

Daad,
I also forgot to mention that there is
Data Protection for Exchange 5.4.1 for Windows x64 only
which supports Exchange Server 2007 legacy backup and restore.
Data Protection for Exchange 5.4.1 for Windows x64
is available on Passport Advantage only.
Thanks,

Hi Daad,
There is no "5.2.2.5" release of Data Protection for Exchange.
The last two releases are 5.2.1 and 5.3.3.
The latest release can be downloaded from Passport Advantage.
Keep in mind, new releases require a license file which are only on the
CD or on the CD-image on the Passport Advantage
Duane,
"0xc7fe1f42 - Database not found" typically means that you are trying to
restore to a storage group that does not have the database already
defined to that storage group with the same exact name as the
original database. Did you create the new storage group

Henrik,
This is normal when displaying ALL active and inactive backups
and you are keeping a fairly large number of backups.
The Data Protection for Exchange code is doing additional
work to verify each and every backup to make sure there
are no "corrupted" backups (meta or data pieces are missing
thanks del,
so i had misunderstood the behaviour of full/copy backup, i thought it was
something like dbbackup/dbsnapshot behaviour.

When you take a DP/Exchange "FULL" backup, it will "expire" all previous
versions of ALL backups types for that storage group.
You should adjust your policy settings to take that into consideration
if you want to base it on "number of versions".
However.. in looking at what you are trying to do, i
Orin,
If you delete Exchange logs that Exchange needs for recovery,
you will run into issues. You should shutdown all of your
Exchange services and restart them.
Then try the backup again.

Hi Robert,
We are currently investigating a problem where the Data Protection
for Exchange 5.3.3 GUI is loading the restore screen without
clearing a previous query... so you may see duplicate entries.
This should not affect the operations.
Thanks,

Hi Del
I will continue to investigate . By the way I install the TDP version
5.3.3.0 and when I loaded the restore panel in the gui (show all objects) I see
the same information twice of my last backup ??
Strange !

Hi Robert,
I recommend that you check the event logs and other system logs closely.
I think that there must be something else running (like another backup
type,
or a defrag, or something else) that is causing this situation to occur.
I know that you said that the exchange admin told you that the d
Hi Volker,
Are you using separate NODENAMEs for each of the different
DSM.OPT files? If not, your solution won't do what you think.
Data Protection for Exchange stores objects in the backup pool,
not the archive pool. That means, each full backup gets the
same TSM Server name (similar to backing

Hi Volker,
You could eventually use "show versions" command on TSM server, to find
out what mgmt class was used for each file backed up.
Syntax for the command is "show version node_name x nametype=fsid" x
being the numerical id of the filespace you want to investigate.
Hope this helped !

Eric,
I need to ask... since you didn't indicate...
Did you add the database to the Recovery Storage Group
before performing the restore?
Does the storage group name AND database name
EXACTLY match (including casing and and all characters)
the one that was in the backup?
The Exchange Server wil
