[Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1407929] Re: [phone] Can't get a GSM connection faster than 2G
@Michael Sorry for the delay in response... RTM has been first and foremost on everyone's plate... Thanks for the detailed bug report too. FYI, network-test-session was originally designed for tracking location-service and nuntium bugs. That said, I was able to gather some useful information from the logs. First, a couple of questions... 1. Has the device ever connected at faster connection speed or has it been fixed at 2g from the start? 2. You state that krillin has no issues connecting at faster speeds. Are both devices using SIMs from the same operator? If not, can you try switching the SIM from the krillin into the mako to see if it makes a difference? 3. When it finally connected in 3g, did it stay that way, or did it eventually fall back to 2g again? If you can get it to switch to 3g again, could you run the following command and add the output to the bug? $ /usr/share/ofono/scripts/list-modems Also, please attach the output of 'list-contexts' ( in the same dir ) as well. A couple other comments: * looking at the syslog, it appears that the device isn't every truly going into deep sleep as evidenced by the some ~3k "Suspended for 0.000" seconds messages. * I see a kernel message that states: "rmnet_usb0 no IPv6 routers present". This may be harmless, but it may tie in to a later point. * Looking at the output of list-modems in the network-test-session.log, I do indeed see that the ConnectionManager's "Bearer" property is set to "edge" ( 2g ). Furthermore, 'NetworkRegistration' shows the 'MobileCountryCode'=260 ( Poland ) and MobileNetworkCode=03 ( Orange ). However... the 'Name' is set to "nju", not "Orange". Is there any chance that your wife is using a SIM from a MVNO that may be using Orange's network? * I checked our APN database ( /etc/apns-conf.xml in the /system/etc/ ) and noticed that Orange includes the attribute 'authtype=1'. We ignore this attribute, which might be causing the problem. When we discussed whether or not to support this attribute, we were told by ofono upstream that this was a deprecated parameter and would make no difference. That said, we explicitly set it to 0 for MTK modems, so there's a chance this might be causing problems. * Finally, I also noticed on the wikipedia page for Orange Poland, that IPv6 ( which we don't yet support ) was rolled out in March 2013. You wouldn't by any chance have access to an Android device you could use to check the provisioning to see if IPv6 is configured? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Phonedations bugs, which is subscribed to ofono in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1407929 Title: [phone] Can't get a GSM connection faster than 2G Status in the base for Ubuntu mobile products: Incomplete Status in indicator-network package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in ofono package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: This might not be the place for this bug, please reassign as appropriate. The network- manager task had already gone from Incomplete to Expired, but there doesn't seem to be any way for me to mark the ofono (Ubuntu) task Expired. @Dave If you can re-create still, please feel free to re-open. ** Changed in: ofono (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Phonedations bugs, which is subscribed to ofono in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1378416 Title: [krillin] disable WiFi, Mobile Data not available Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu: Expired Status in ofono package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: STEPS: 1. The debug.txt in comment #3 clearly shows that mobile data is connected via the list-modems output and list-contexts output. This output also agrees with the nmcli output which shows /ril_0 as connected. The smoking gun here looks to be the routing table, which is empty. When an EnterPin operation fails, both mako and krillin signify a PropertyChange for the SimManager 'Retries' property ( which is a Dictionary ) and the value of the "pin" entry is reduced by one for each failed attempt. When the device becomes PUK locked, failed attempts to PUK unlock the device via the ResetPin method don't cause a similar PropertyChange signal for 'Retries' / 'puk'. On mako, 'puk' is never added to the 'Retries' dictionary. On krillin, although 'puk' is present, it's value is never updated. So the radio tech preference is being honored as NetworkRegistration shows that you have a 'gsm' connection for voice, however the bearer technology for your data connection is indeed 'edge'. [Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1421162] Re: Phone doesn't establish cellular data connection
@Jean-Baptiste This sounds similar to bug #1425987. A few questions... What was the SIM configuration you used? Was either SIM locked? You also mention that you switched several times between operators? How? Did you use the System Settings::Cellular::Carriers page? How many operators were visible? Can you still reproduce reliably? The key us being able to fix is first being able to reproduce your scenario. I can't really do this from the information provided so far... Finally, we recently landed a fix for MTK-based modems which should fix some of the problems that occurred when switching between WiFi and mobile-data. Also, I added a ofono (Ubuntu-RTM) task as you reported this against an RTM image, not vivid. ** Changed in: ofono (Ubuntu RTM) Assignee: (unassigned) => Jean-Baptiste Lallement (jibel) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Phonedations bugs, which is subscribed to ofono in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1421162 Title: Phone doesn't establish cellular data connection Status in ofono package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Status in ofono package in Ubuntu RTM: Incomplete Bug description: I switched several times between operators and 2g/3g settings in system-settings without any Wifi connection, and at some point the phone stopped connecting to a cellular data network (no network in the indicator) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu RTM 14.09 Package: ofono 1.12.bzr6884+15.04.20150121.1~rtm-0ubuntu1 Uname: Linux 3.4.67 armv7l ApportVersion: 2.14.7-0ubuntu8 Architecture: armhf Date: Thu Feb 12 11:05:08 2015 InstallationDate: Installed on 2015-02-11 (0 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu Utopic Unicorn (development branch) - armhf (20150211-170913) SourcePackage: ofono UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ofono/+bug/1421162/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-phonedations-bugs Post to : ubuntu-phonedations-bugs@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-phonedations-bugs More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1417445] Re: SIM is not reported as locked after re-starting ofono
@Alfonso What's the result when this happens on krillin and/or arale? Does the SIM become unusable or this merely a semantics issue ( ie. the fact that LockedPins doesn't specify "pin" ). ** Changed in: ofono (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Phonedations bugs, which is subscribed to ofono in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1417445 Title: SIM is not reported as locked after re-starting ofono Status in ofono package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: To reproduce this in mako: 1. Start mako with a locked SIM 2. Enter PIN 3. list-modems outpus shows [ /ril_0 ] [ org.ofono.SimManager ] PinRequired = none LockedPins = pin 4. Execute # restart ofono 5. list-modems outpus shows [ /ril_0 ] [ org.ofono.SimManager ] PinRequired = none LockedPins = which is wrong, as the PIN is enabled, although you do not need to enter it at this moment. The origin of this is that ofono core sets LockedPins only if it notes that we are required to enter the PIN. When the SIM atom is created, if at that moment there is no need to insert the PIN it will not set the PIN as locked (=enabled). For mako this is not a big issue unless it is re-spawned after a crash, but in other devices (arale), this happens simply switching off, then on flight mode. Happens in vivid-proposed image #86. Updated importance to Wishlist, as this is a new feature request. Currently, there's no way to get any cipher information from the baseband processor using the standard RIL API. Concretely, it is stored in files of the form "/var/lib/ofono//gprs". This is misleading for the user because she might do things like setting data connection off, and then insert a different SIM which "gprs" file says that data should be on, getting a data connection in the end. Also, this is especially bad for dual-SIM, dual-standby modems where you might get to a situation where you try to data attach with both SIMs, which provokes a race condition, and in the end the user does not know which SIM is being used for data. The solution would be to store that configuration data per modem, which are fixed and it is probably the way the user thinks when using system settings. [Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1430700] Re: Cannot set flight mode if the second slot is 3G and we have just one SIM in that slot
I tried your scenario and can't reproduce. Some additional comments: 1. Does set-3g-slot produce any kind of useful error message? It hasn't yet failed for me. Does ofono log any errors to syslog? 2. Is the reboot solely because set-3g-slot failed, or is it a required step ( I tried with and without... )? 3. Your bug description is a bit misleading as setting a one or both modems to offline doesn't enable FlightMode, it merely offlines the modems. So I assume you mean the modem associated with the empty slot cannot be offlined? 4. Does offline-modem produce any kind of error message? If not, have you tried to see what error is returned from ofono to the SetProperty call? Any log messges? If there's a race involved, a test script that uses urfkill's flight- mode script directly might be a good idea. My testing was done on a Krillin with one T-Mobile SIM in the second slot. The set-3g-slot command finishes, but leaves the modem in a bad state: root@ubuntu-phablet:/usr/share/ofono/scripts# ./list-modems [ /ril_1 ] Interfaces = org.ofono.MtkSettings Lockdown = 0 Emergency = 0 Powered = 0 Type = hardware Online = 0 Features = [ org.ofono.MtkSettings ] Has3G = 1 [ /ril_0 ] Interfaces = Lockdown = 0 Emergency = 0 Powered = 0 Type = hardware Online = 0 Features = The reboot fixes this, and then when I try to offline /ril_0, the script throws an exception when the DBus reply timeout expires. ** Changed in: ofono (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed ** Changed in: ofono (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => High ** Also affects: canonical-devices-system-image Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Phonedations bugs, which is subscribed to ofono in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1430700 Title: Cannot set flight mode if the second slot is 3G and we have just one SIM in that slot Status in the base for Ubuntu mobile products: New Status in ofono package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Flight mode fails to be set if we have the 3G capabilities set for the second slot and we have just one SIM, which is inserted in the that slot. Go to system settings -> cellular 4. Select "2G/3G (faster)" for SIM 2. Spinner does not stop after more than 1 minute. 5. Reboot the phone 6. Set flight mode from the indicator. It will appear as set, but the indicator will still show the SIM as registered. The failure to set SIM 2 as 3G without rebooting and being unable to set flight more are manifestations of the same ofono issue. [Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1431026] Re: regression cannot connect to 3g network on boot on vivid r129
@taiebot65 Starting and stopping ofono multiple times isn't advised. I looked at the output of list-modems in comment #1 and comment #2, and in both cases the your phone is registered to Vectone with 'umts', and ofono's ConnectionManager interface shows your device as both 'Powered' and 'Attached' with bearer = 'hspa'. Can you also run 'list-contexts' after you boot the device, and attach /var/log/syslog? The dmesg file isn't really helpful as it just shows kernel messages, whereas NM logs to syslog, and we can see connection activation attempts. Also, after booting, please wait least 5m and see if the device activate your mobile data connection. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Phonedations bugs, which is subscribed to ofono in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1431026 Title: regression cannot connect to 3g network on boot on vivid r129 Status in ofono package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Device nexus 4 mako running devel-proposed r129 On stable and devel channel 3g connection works as expected. I'm also not sure what you meant by comment #5. Was WiFi enabled when you booted the device? You say "On first boot when i ran nmcli d Wifi turned off" and then the output shows both /ril_0 ( the modem ) and WiFi as unavailable. If you disable WiFi, urfkill remembers this state and will preserve it even across reboots. [Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1361864] Re: add "Tag" property to ConnectionContext interface
Changed back to Incomplete, as this came up again during a meeting this morning to discuss the current state of the APN editor. I think what's needed is some way to indicate that an APN/context is the preferred APN for a Internet and/or MMS. I'm not quite sure why a generic tag was proposed, as I think a simple boolean 'Preferred' property would suffice. Doing this also means we wouldn't need to add a new method either. Note, NetworkManager currently reads the ofono gprs contexts directly from ofono's settings file ( /var/lib/ofono/https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1361864 Title: add "Tag" property to ConnectionContext interface Status in ofono package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: To implement system-settings APN editor reliably there has to be a Tag field with is an arbitrary non user-visible string that can be set for any Context. [Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1435784] Re: SMS and calls working, but no mobile internet
Looking at our apns-conf.xml file, here's the corresponding APN for Bob: ...and looking at our GPRS code, as ofono doesn't directly support the 'authtype' attribute, the rilmodem gprs code hard codes an authtype, and furthermore as MTK modems don't appear to support the value hard-coded by rilmodem, they specify an 'authtype' of NONE. @Pat We should try and keep these bugs separate until we can confirm that they're the same issue. Unfortunately, the carrier name by itself isn't sufficient to tell. To uniquely identify a carrier, we need the name, Mobile Country Code ( mcc ), and Mobile Network Code ( mnc ). Taking a quick look at our APN db, I two possible matches: Vodafone (D2) > Vodafone DE: mcc=262 mnc=02 Telekom (D1) --> Telekom Internet: mcc=262 mnc=01 Telekom Internet does specify authtype=1, so that's the same bug. The APN for Vodafone DE doesn't specify an 'authtype', but until we know that the carrier details ( mcc/mnc ), we can't confirm. In general, our APN db has pretty poor coverage in Germany. In addition to the mobile network codes for these carriers, it would also be helpful to get the Internet APN details for these carriers. For the four that aren't in our db, this would include: apn ( an abbreviation for access point name ) username password authtype ( if specified ) Also, if any MMS details ( mmsc, mmsproxy/port ) would be useful as well, although not directly relevant to getting Internet working. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Phonedations bugs, which is subscribed to ofono in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1436545 Title: Mobile data not working for numerous German carriers Status in ofono package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Status in ofono package in Ubuntu RTM: Incomplete Bug description: We have reports from users on these carriers in Germany - Kabel Deutschland - Simply (O2) - Vodafone(D2) - Telekom(D1) - Klarmobil, (MVNO Telekom deutschland network 900MHZ) - Alditalk (E-Plus network 1800Mhz, from Telefonica group) In general, our APN db has pretty poor coverage in Germany. [Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1436545] Re: Mobile data not working for numerous German carriers
@Thomas Per my earlier request, can you please provide the mobile network code for these carriers that you've tested? You can find this by running the script /usr/share/ofono/list-modems, and look for MobileNetworkCode property under the SimManager interface. I see a grand total of five carriers listed. This means that the customers in question are most likely entering their APNs manually. Unfortunately, the carrier name by itself isn't sufficient to tell. To uniquely identify a carrier, we need the name, Mobile Country Code ( mcc ), and Mobile Network Code ( mnc ). Taking a quick look at our APN db, I two possible matches: Vodafone (D2) > Vodafone DE: mcc=262 mnc=02 Telekom (D1) --> Telekom Internet: mcc=262 mnc=01 Telekom Internet does specify authtype=1, so that's the same as bug #1435784. The APN for Vodafone DE doesn't specify an 'authtype', but until we know that the carrier details ( mcc/mnc ), we can't confirm. [Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1339792] Re: Panel network icon - too much latency when network type changes
I just hit this again on krillin. Both modems lost signal, and thus were no longer registered to a carrier, yet the data icon still showed 'edge'. That said, I wasn't fast enough to grab a screenshot, nor list-modems output. Regarding comment #7 and this being an ofono issue, we need some kind of proof. I usually see this when switching enabling WiFi, as I've pointed out, there seems to be different logic that's used for the panel icon vs. the menu item representing the connected AP. phablet@ubuntu-phablet:~$ system-image-cli -i current build number: 20 device name: krillin channel: ubuntu-touch/ubuntu-rtm/14.09 last update: 2015-03-26 15:44:56 version version: 20 version ubuntu: 20150312 version device: 20150310-3201c0a version custom: 20150216-561-29-186 ** Changed in: indicator-network (Ubuntu RTM) Assignee: (unassigned) => Pete Woods (pete-woods) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Phonedations bugs, which is subscribed to ofono in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1339792 Title: Panel network icon - too much latency when network type changes Status in indicator-network package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in ofono package in Ubuntu: New Status in indicator-network source package in Utopic: Confirmed Status in ofono source package in Utopic: New Status in indicator-network source package in Vivid: Confirmed Status in ofono source package in Vivid: New Status in indicator-network package in Ubuntu RTM: Confirmed Bug description: Testing image #u122 this morning, I ran into two separate scenarios where the panel network icon didn't always accurately reflect the current network technology due to some kind of latency detecting network changes ( ie. [Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1413672] Re: The SIM used for data in MTK-based dual-standby modems can change after carrier re-registration or reboot
A brief explanation is necessary... By default, ofono sets the 'Powered' property of a modem's ConnectionManager interface to True, this in turn causes the ofono core to trigger GPRS attachment, which if successful, sets the 'Attached' property to True. NetworkManager will only attempt to activate a connection of both 'Attached' and 'Powered' are set to True. The MTK plugin and modem code currently have logic which prevents both modems from becoming 'Attached', however this logic is non-deterministic as timing may effect which modem is set attached first. If an end-user goes and explicitly changes the SIM selection for mobile data, ofono will update the gprs settings for both SIMs, such that the newly selected SIM will be powered, and the other SIM not powered. >From this point on, this bug will be prevented from happening. A fix has been proposed in the following branch: https://github.com/rilmodem/ofono/pull/157 It ensures that only one Modem's ConnectionManager can be powered at any time. When it detects a change from False to True of a modem's CM 'Powered' property, either from a call to DBus, or via a loaded gprs settings file, it causes the other modem's CM 'Powered' property to be toggled to False. In essence, similar logic of Cellular Settings. ** Changed in: ofono (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => In Progress ** Changed in: ofono (Ubuntu RTM) Status: Confirmed => In Progress -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Phonedations bugs, which is subscribed to ofono in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1413672 Title: The SIM used for data in MTK-based dual-standby modems can change after carrier re-registration or reboot Status in the base for Ubuntu mobile products: New Status in ofono package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in ofono package in Ubuntu RTM: In Progress Bug description: When there are 2 SIMs inserted in a krillin running Ubuntu, it may happen that the one that gets used for mobile data changes on each reboot. ofono allows both SIMs to be activated for data. [Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1379412] Re: SIM selection for mobile data is non-deterministic
@Pat The suggestion from Alfonso was to fix this via a new page in the first boot wizard which would ask the user which SIM they'd prefer to use for mobile data. This would only be displayed if the phone detected more then one inserted SIM. The general consensus from design was that this was less than ideal and that we should figure out how to do this automatically. Alfonso and I discussed this today, and it's my belief that we could do this by checking to see which SIM was inserted in the 3g capable slot and only setting the ConnectionManager's 'Powered' attribute to True for this modem. This would require us extending the GPRS interface to allow the ofono core to query the 3g capability of the modem slot, which is a very MTK-specific capability. If we implemented this, we'd need to figure out how to make this more generic. Note, bug #1413672 is related, and has a fix currently in-review. Finally, the fix for this bug cannot be deployed as an OTA update, it would require a factory image update, as this bug only occurs during first boot *if* the user had installed two SIMs before-hand. It also potentially could occur if the user resets the phone, but this scenario hasn't been verified. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Phonedations bugs, which is subscribed to ofono in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1379412 Title: SIM selection for mobile data is non-deterministic Status in the base for Ubuntu mobile products: Confirmed Status in Ubuntu UX bugs: Triaged Status in ofono package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in ubuntu-system-settings package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in ubuntu-system-settings package in Ubuntu RTM: Confirmed Bug description: Our current implementation of SIM selection for mobile data is currently ( as of RTM #94 ) non-deterministic. If two SIMs are installed in the phone at first boot ofono will self- power the ConnectionManager interfaces for both modems which results in the 'Powered' property of both being set to 'true'. Only one of the two will attach to the network however, and if both SIMs are unlocked, this is usually the second slot. Note, if the second SIM is locked, then the first SIM is used for mobile data. The cellular system settings uses the 'Powered' property to choose which SIM is selected, so the current behavior is clearly broken. It was suggested that we should change ofono to not self-power it's ConnectionManager interface, and instead add a wizard page that allows the user to choose which SIM to use for mobile data. [Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1413672] Re: The SIM used for data in MTK-based dual-standby modems can change after carrier re-registration or reboot
Tested with krillin #20 (ubuntu-touch/ubuntu-rtm/14.09). While the basic fix works, it can still cause the SIM selection to flip once after upgrade. Here's the scenario, if two SIMs are in the phone, and the user hasn't yet used the Cellular Settings to pin a SIM for mobile data, then both SIMs will have 'Powered=1' in the associated gprs settings files. Let's say for instance, that mobile data was using SIM2 when the upgrade occurs. At this point, when the phone boots, say SIM1 takes longer to register thant SIM2. When SIM1 comes online, the gprs settings file is read, and 'Powered=1', so the fix causes the other SIM's 'Powered' to be set to 0. This doesn't happen when SIM1 came online, because since SIM2 wasn't online yet, it didn't have a valid gprs atom, so it's 'Powered' property couldn't yet be set to '0'. This will only happen the first time after upgrade, and only if the user previously had two SIMs installed *and* they'd never used Cellular Settings to pin mobile data to a specific SIM yet, and the non-selected SIM comes online *after* the SIM that currently is being used for mobile data. >From this point on, the fix works as expected... and the selected SIM will only change in response to the user changing the setting. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Phonedations bugs, which is subscribed to ofono in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1413672 Title: The SIM used for data in MTK-based dual-standby modems can change after carrier re-registration or reboot Status in the base for Ubuntu mobile products: Fix Committed Status in ofono package in Ubuntu: Fix Committed Status in ofono package in Ubuntu RTM: Fix Committed Bug description: When there are 2 SIMs inserted in a krillin running Ubuntu, it may happen that the one that gets used for mobile data changes on each reboot. ofono allows both SIMs to be activated for data. [Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1435328] Re: Leaving Wifi does not connect to mobile carrier data (GSM)
OK, I think I figured it out after looking at a radio log of the problem reproduced by Alfonso. First, there are a couple of MTK-specific unsolicited events that are received that look suspicious: RIL_UNSOL_RESPONSE_PS_NETWORK_STATE_CHANGED UNSOL_RESTRICTED_STATE_CHANGED RIL_UNSOL_RESPONSE_PS_NETWORK_STATE_CHANGED UNSOL_RESTRICTED_STATE_CHANGED UNSOL_DATA_CALL_LIST_CHANGED Turns the mtkmodem code overrides the normal NETWORK_STATE_CHANGED unsolicted request with the PS_NETWORK_STATE_CHANGED request. The RESTRICTED_STATE_CHANGED request doesn't seem to be listened for at all. That said, I also see a UNSOL_DATA_CALL_LIST_CHANGED with the following payload: 01 00 00 00 F2 03 00 00 09 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 = unsolicted F2 03 00 00 = UNSOL_DATA_CALL_LIST_CHANGED 09 00 00 00 = version 00 00 00 00 = number of calls The function ril_gprs_context_call_list_changed() in /drivers/rilmodem /gprs-context.c handles this message. If tries to iterator over the call list, and if disconnect == TRUE, or active_cid_found == FALSE, it calls set_context_disconnect(). This function however only sets the internal rilmodem struct to disconnected state, and doesn't inform the ofono core of the disconnect. So, it leaves the connection internally disconnected, but to the rest of the system, it's still connected. I imagine this may be the same bug as bug #1436427 ( which has been a theory all along ). I'm working on a fix now, and should have something available to test by tomorrow. ** Also affects: ofono (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: ofono (Ubuntu) Status: New => In Progress ** Changed in: ofono (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Critical ** Changed in: ofono (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => Tony Espy (awe) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Phonedations bugs, which is subscribed to ofono in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1435328 Title: Leaving Wifi does not connect to mobile carrier data (GSM) Status in the base for Ubuntu mobile products: Confirmed Status in ofono package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in ofono package in Ubuntu RTM: In Progress Bug description: After leaving my home or work wifi, my Bq phone cannot connect to the data from my mobile carrier. [Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1435328] Re: Leaving Wifi does not connect to mobile carrier data (GSM)
Here's the latest update on what we know about this bug. First, we have working fix for ofono's behavior when a DATA_CALL_LIST_CHANGED message is received with an empty call list, and the context stays active but becomes stale/non-working. This should land in a silo by early tomorrow. Second, Alfonso has pointed out that there may be additional network- manager changes required. His original testing performed on krillin/vivid, and as there's still a race between the disconnect from ofono, and NM changing the default route, it's still possible for an error to be thrown when NM configures the default route for the modem. When this happen, NM leaves the connection in an inconsistent state. When he tried the same scenario on krillin/RTM plus the patched ofono, it worked. I believe he may have just been lucky, and the disconnect happened before the default route logic ran. This is a guess, so we have some more work to in figuring this out. As these fixes are critical enough to warrant a hot-fix to RTM, we're going to concentrate on it first, and then address vivid. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Phonedations bugs, which is subscribed to ofono in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1435328 Title: Leaving Wifi does not connect to mobile carrier data (GSM) Status in the base for Ubuntu mobile products: Confirmed Status in ofono package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in ofono package in Ubuntu RTM: In Progress Bug description: After leaving my home or work wifi, my Bq phone cannot connect to the data from my mobile carrier. [Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1435328] Re: Leaving Wifi does not connect to mobile carrier data (GSM)
I think the issue is the the nm_system_apply_ip4_config () method always returns TRUE, ignoring any errors from nm_system_device_set_ip4_route (), which returns NULL to signify an error adding a route. I've added a preliminary fix for this, by adding logic to check for NULL and immediately return FALSE. instead of continuing to iterate the through any remaining routes to be added. Note, this may need to be re- worked to ensure that route object references are all properly cleaned up, but it should suffice for testing the fix. A version of this first attempt at patching can found in my PPA: https://launchpad.net/~awe/+archive/ubuntu/ppa Note, as it's a FIX for RTM, it's the 0.9.8 version. The debug.txt in comment #3 clearly shows that mobile data is connected via the list-modems output and list-contexts output. This output also agrees with the nmcli output which shows /ril_0 as connected. The smoking gun here looks to be the routing table, which is empty. [Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1435328] Re: Leaving Wifi does not connect to mobile carrier data (GSM)
@Alfonso So looking closer at NM 0.9.8, the routing is updated by nm-policy.c in its device_state_changed() function. It calls update_routing_and_dns() in several places, which in turn calls update_ip4_routing(), which in turn calls nm_system_replace_default_ip4_route(). Only the last function returns an error code, so if adding the default route fails, the error doesn't bubble up, and the system is left partially configured. I hacked nm_system_replace_default_ip4_route() to return an error on it's third invocation, then rebooted the system with WiFi disabled. The first call to replace_default_ip4_route() happens when the mobile data connection is established on reboot. Next I activated WiFi and the phone connected to an AP, that's the second route call. Finally I disabled WiFi and this triggers the third route call which fails. At this point we have a connection that NM still thinks is connected, with an empty routing table. Next I deactivated the context manually, and NM turned around and re- established the connection, so I *think* this proves that the scenario you described in comment #26 isn't happening with NM 0.9.8. At this point, as changing the NM logic isn't super straight-forward, I would suggest that we don't attempt to patch NM for utopic-RTM at this point, unless someone else is able to prove for certain that NM can get wedged in a bad state when the routing configuration fails. @Alfonso Can you include an image number? Do you think this is a krillin- specific bug, or could it occur on other devices? Also how repeatable is the problem? [Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1445580] Re: Impossible to end a call after switching to airplane mode
I marked the dialer(app) task as Incomplete, as I'm not sure it requires a change. I also added an indicator-network task as it's not clear the indicator should allow flight-mode to be enabled when an active call exists. This should absolutely be prevented during an emergency call, but I would argue that it should be prevented during any active calls. I'm not sure if there's a separate Unity/framework mechanism which would prevent "ear-induced-flight-mode", but maybe this could be accomplished via the proximity sensor as an alternative ( only if foolproof ). ** Changed in: dialer-app (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete ** Also affects: indicator-network (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Phonedations bugs, which is subscribed to ofono in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1445580 Title: Impossible to end a call after switching to airplane mode Status in the base for Ubuntu mobile products: Confirmed Status in dialer-app package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Status in indicator-network package in Ubuntu: New Status in ofono package in Ubuntu: In Progress Bug description: As I described here https://lists.launchpad.net/ubuntu-phone/msg12177.html I accidentally switched the phone to the airplane mode while having an active incoming call. As a result it is impossible to end a call - the red button does not end the call. The bug is easy to reproduce: 1. Make a call to your Ubuntu phone and answer it. 2. Switch on 'airplane mode' 3. As a result you get unusable phone. Of course switching gsm off while having an active call is not a typical use of the phone, but still the phone should react to this situation differently. Another thing is that I somehow switched gsm off while holding my phone to my ear (which may suggest some issue with the top panel) - but I don't know how to reproduce this, hence currently I treat this as an very unfortunate accident. Workaround for ending the call: make another incoming call to your phone. [Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1435328] Re: Leaving Wifi does not connect to mobile carrier data (GSM)
@Alfonso To be clear, I attempted to simulate the failure by hard-coding a route failure on the 3rd route switch ( when WiFi is toggled off, NM replaces the route with the modem's interface ). This definitely left the connection inconsistent with the actual routing table, but I next was able to deactivate the context from the command-line, and NM successfully restarted the connection. So again, I don't think the scenario you describe in comment #26 is possible on RTM, so we'll just release the ofono patch. I will try to force the scenario on vivid and see if I can reproduce the problem you described with NM not being able to re-establish the connection after a route failure before disconnect.
