[Bug 390741] [NEW] iwlagn module disconnects randomly
Public bug reported: The iwlagn module disconnects from time to time (1minute - 3hours it depends). There is no stack trace in the logs like in bug 346773 but the reloading the module restores connection. The disconnection never (?) happens when the card is busy. I have transmited multi-GB data sets and it was working fine. But just let it get idle and it drops the connection quickly. Running constant local ping (eg. to your router) helps usually but only with 1s ping intervals. If I ping with 10s or more intervals the connection is dropped anyway. I have upgraded to the "proposed" repo kernel and it helped a little (with the standard kernel I was getting the stack trace in the logs and usually it was necessary to reboot to connect again). This is on Thinkpad X300. The connection is WPA2 encrypted. The AP is very close (Linksys WPA200). I consider this problem to be quite serious. I am kind of geek and I can manage but for normal user this would be a real show-stopper. I suspect that this is connected to other iwlagn bugs and ultimately to the firmware bug. Here is a typical dmesg of the problem (first module reload then error and disconnection): [93143.276247] iwlagn: Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link AGN driver for Linux, 1.3.27ks [93143.276252] iwlagn: Copyright(c) 2003-2009 Intel Corporation [93143.276371] iwlagn :03:00.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 17 (level, low) -> IRQ 17 [93143.276418] iwlagn :03:00.0: setting latency timer to 64 [93143.276706] iwlagn :03:00.0: Detected Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN REV=0x4 [93143.319848] iwlagn :03:00.0: Tunable channels: 13 802.11bg, 19 802.11a channels [93143.319963] iwlagn :03:00.0: irq 2299 for MSI/MSI-X [93143.322482] phy0: Selected rate control algorithm 'iwl-agn-rs' [93147.745638] iwlagn :03:00.0: firmware: requesting lbm-iwlwifi-4965-2.ucode [93147.756801] iwlagn :03:00.0: loaded firmware version 228.57.2.23 [93147.959421] Registered led device: iwl-phy0::radio [93147.959472] Registered led device: iwl-phy0::assoc [93147.959512] Registered led device: iwl-phy0::RX [93147.959552] Registered led device: iwl-phy0::TX [93148.006653] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready [93160.368562] wlan0: authenticate with AP ee6256b8 [93160.370442] wlan0: authenticated [93160.370448] wlan0: associate with AP ee6256b8 [93160.372968] wlan0: RX AssocResp from ee6e004e (capab=0x411 status=0 aid=1) [93160.372974] wlan0: associated [93160.395175] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): wlan0: link becomes ready [93168.669923] wlan0: deauthenticated (Reason: 1) [93169.669074] wlan0: direct probe to AP ee6256b8 try 1 [93169.671747] wlan0 direct probe responded [93169.671753] wlan0: authenticate with AP ee6256b8 [93169.674109] wlan0: authenticated [93169.674115] wlan0: associate with AP ee6256b8 [93169.676637] wlan0: RX ReassocResp from ed17004e (capab=0x411 status=0 aid=1) [93169.676642] wlan0: associated [93170.924095] wlan0: no IPv6 routers present [97374.939513] iwlagn :03:00.0: Microcode SW error detected. [Bug 362107] Re: [Jaunty] Firefox causes system hang on large pages
I have solved the problem by removing the profile and importing the data back into the new profile (fairly tedious task, it would be nice if there would be some global importer of that kind for the browser). It runs smoothly - no single hang from that point. But. I do consider this still to be a bug - the browser should not be able to *completely* hang the system on cue. On the other hand I believe this one is not possible to find until it will manifest itself in more "traceable" form. -- [Jaunty] Firefox causes system hang on large pages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/362107 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 362107] Re: [Jaunty] Firefox causes system hang on large pages
I have very similar issue. The firefox can hang the system completely (no caps-lock and no sysreq-b). Mouse is usually also frozen (but not allways). It seems that it is triggered by larger pages. I'm using epiphany for now and I have had no hangs for several days. But if I try ff again it hangs as soon as I hit a complex enough page. This is very stable system - after upgrade from intrepid. I'm running free ati drivers. I'll be happy to provide any info which can help - there is nothing in the logs as one expects after such complete hang. -- [Jaunty] Firefox causes system hang on large pages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/362107 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 61001] Re: Cannot upgrade from dapper to edgy
I've just completed test upgrade (I will do it again at least once a few days). It went smoothly (except for the broken update-manager due to the bug 63344). At the end I have had to remove (in synaptic) the configs of removed packages (not supported any more, mainly libraries). The only remaining issue (minor but ... ) is the obsolate packages: imake and makedepend - they cennot be removed if you do not know that they are replaced by xutils-dev. This step should be done by the upgrade application. The app-install-data-commercial is at version 2 in edgy and version 5 in dapper so is not upgraded. I think this should be corrected. Also the old kernels are not removed but I think this step is correctly left for the user to do - just to make sure the system can still be booted. -- Cannot upgrade from dapper to edgy https://launchpad.net/bugs/61001 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I have a follow-up. I have managed to work around this thing and have reliable wlan connection on my ThinkPad X300. I have noticed that pinging some local address cures the problem. It also never occurs during transfers (I can transfer few GB without single drop, but just let it be idle - it drops connection sooner or later). Now for work-around: I have created following script in the /etc/network/if-up.d ## !/bin/sh if [ "$IFACE" = "wlan0" ]; then # You can uncomment following lines to enable power management #iwconfig wlan0 power on #echo 5 >/sys/bus/pci/drivers/iwlagn/\:03\:00.0/power_level ping `netstat -rn |grep ^0\.0\.0\.0 |awk '{print $2}'` & echo $! >/var/run/pinger.pid fi # And companion script in /etc/network/if-down.d # #!/bin/bash if [ -f /var/run/pinger.pid ] ; then kill `cat /var/run/pinger.pid` fi # The above just creates "pinger" process pinging local gateway all the time. [Bug 579302] Re: Some terrain displays show up corrupted
After more digging I have found that setting "LC_NUMERIC=C stellarium" fixes this issue. It is apparently multi-duplicate and shows up meny times in history despite being fixed by the patch in comment 19 of bug #518809 (a trivial patch). I think that despite this being technically a duplicate this bug should not be closed but fixed instead... for good and the fix send upstream. -- Some terrain displays show up corrupted https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/579302 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 579302] [NEW] Some terrain displays show up corrupted
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: stellarium On lucid 32bit with Intel and also on ATI graphics (proprietary driver tested) some terrain scenes are corrupted. The standard one for example. They show a wide band of colors along the horizon (see the attached pictures). While some come up fine (mars, moon, trees). The ocean shows the band *under* the horizon. This makes the program less attractive but still usable. See attached screens for details. [Bug 445196] [NEW] Toolbar icons are mangled on intel graphics cards
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: stellarium After upgrade jaunty -> karmic (beta). The toolbar icons are all mangled. This makes the application *very* hard to use. Fortunately the tool-tips still display correctly, so you can make tails or heads of the interface but this will definitely scare the fresh user. The main screen displays fine but rather slow. There is quite visible stuttering of the panning and zooming (it was fairly smooth on jaunty). This is on the slow platform (ThinkPad X300 2x1.2GHz, intel GM965/GL960 graphics, but still it was smooth on jaunty). The slowness itself is not a deal-breaker but the toolbars are. [Bug 445312] [NEW] Karmic upgrade breaks many apps startup scripts.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: upstart After upgrade to karmic beta quite a number of apps (standard: cups, and third-party: openvpn, tpfand, daemontools) stop working because their starting scripts are not migrated into new infrastructure and seem to be just ignored. They work fine when manually started with "/etc/init.d/script start". I also cannot find a good docs for dealing with this. I can deal with it myself but I think that this means *lots* of broken/half working systems there. I think there should be a fall-back for starting daemons not supported by the install - probably with the clear message indicating that something should be done with it and how to do it. Good quick-and-dirty (or better quick and clean) tutorial in easily visible place would not hurt at all. I do feel this is fairly important stuff (esp. for cups and openvpn). I fear there will be *lots* of phone calls with "I upgraded and now my system is broken" theme to them. I feel this could be a real support nightmare if unfixed before release. ** Affects: upstart (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Karmic upgrade breaks many apps startup scripts. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/445312 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 445338] [NEW] In karmic the program hangs on anything
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-web-photo After upgrade to karmic the gnome-web-photo hangs on anything I throw at it. How to reproduce: You can get a hang by following invocation (one line): gnome-web-photo --mode=photo --format=png 'http://josm.openstreetmap.de/wmsplugin/YahooDirect.html?bbox=19.9832655,50.0639502,20.0161869,50.1061982&srs=EPSG:4326&width=500&height=499' file.png You should get the bitmap of arial photo of cracow/poland in the file.png (you can test this in browser). Instead the program just hangs without any message consuming 100% cpu. Even worse it is used as thumbnailer by nautilus. Just create empty file file.html and watch the hourglass icon for it and CPU soaring to 100% without any result. Furthermore - it blocks further updates of other icons until you kill the process. The actual hanging process is /usr/bin/gnome-web-photo.real This seems to be quite serious. Maybe not critical but high priority in my book. [Bug 443067] Re: Boot-up messages after upgrade
These were the boot-up messages - as far as I understood the beta instructions they should not be there. But they are gone now. One of the recent upstart/initscripts etc. updates removed all of them. Now I only get blinking cursor for a momet before getting splash screen. If this is an expected behaviour you can consider this error fixed as far as I am concerned. -- Boot-up messages after upgrade https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/443067 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 445196] Re: Toolbar icons are mangled on intel graphics cards
I have just checked again the setup window and it is totally garbled as the Aaron noticed above. The Install is 32bit/ThinkPad X300/Intel GM965/GL960 graphics. The same with and without active compiz. The basic display is not distorted (status line). -- Toolbar icons are mangled on intel graphics cards https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/445196 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 440251] Re: Internal microphone does not work
I have the same issue with the same hardware. Running latest (21/10) updated karmic beta. The external jack microphone works fine. I have noticed one thing though. If I run gnome alsa mixer with working microphone I get picture like the first screenshot: the mic and capture channels are switched on recording and PA control shows signal from the ext mic. When I switch internal Mic checkbox I get the second screen: BOTH mic & Capture channels are switched off (rec) and in PA sound control the Mute checkbox appears. There is no signal from the internal mic. If I switch capture rec on in gnome-alsamixer (third screen) there is still no signal in PA control and no signal from the mic and the Mute check stays put. If I unmute the PA control in the right window the Internal mic is switched off and mic switched on - back to the first screen situation. It is the same if I put model=thinkpad in alsa-base.conf or not. ** Attachment added: "Working external mic" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/34104619/external_mic_working.png -- Internal microphone does not work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/440251 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 426417] Re: broken menus at Ubuntu Linux 9.04/9.10 with intel-2.8.1/2.9
It works on ThinkPad X300 as well. I am not sure but the performance looks the same (poor 4-7FPS). BTW is there a way to speed it up? It is usable but sluggish. -- broken menus at Ubuntu Linux 9.04/9.10 with intel-2.8.1/2.9 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/426417 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
