After more digging I have found that setting "LC_NUMERIC=C stellarium" fixes this issue. It is apparently multi-duplicate and shows up meny times in history despite being fixed by the patch in comment 19 of bug #518809 (a trivial patch). I think that despite this being technically a duplicate this bug should not be closed but fixed instead... for good and the fix send upstream.
