[Bug 304908] [NEW] AR5414 Wifi (ath5k): can not connect; random system freeze

2008-12-03 Thread Antoine Pairet
Public bug reported:

Hi!
I'm experiencing troubles with my Wifi.
@ home: WEP 128, link quality changes from 1 bar to 4 bars without any reason
as the AP and the PC are in the same room with the same trafic.

@ University: WAP (2?), also has the problem of the link quality. After
some usage Wifi disconnect and is no more able to reconnect. The dmesg
becomes full of Call Trace (see below). I also experience system crash:
nothing is responding anymore! If rhythmbox is playing, it keeps looping
at the same sound. There's still output, but it is awful; ex:
laa The only solution is pushing on the power button and
waiting till the PC is shutted down.

I'm a bit confused with the following; lspci reports the chipset to be Atheros
Communications Inc. AR242x 802.11abg Wireless PCI Express Adapter (rev 01)
However, looking at the logs I got:
Dec 3 12:49:38 portant kernel: [ 14.188845] ath5k phy0: Atheros AR5414 chip
found (MAC: 0xa0, PHY: 0x61)

Therefore I open a new bug.

[Bug 275423] Re: intrepid madwifi ath5k with AR242x not detecting all wireless networks and link speed is very poor

2008-12-03 Thread Antoine Pairet
In fact I still experience problems with the newer versions (compat-wireless
2008-12-02). I opened a new bug here
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/304908

I'm confused with the following; lspci reports the chipset to be

However, looking at the logs I got:

I hope a did the right thing by opening a new bug. If not please mark is as
duplicate and accept my excuses.

[Bug 275423] Re: intrepid madwifi ath5k with AR242x not detecting all wireless networks and link speed is very poor

2008-11-27 Thread Antoine Pairet
After one month of using ath5k, here are some more informations. The
version I use is included in backports modules on intrepid: 2.6.27.10.13

* still have errors in dmesg
* link speed always of 1Mb/sec though it should be 54
* at home: WEP 128: link quality varies though always used under the same
conditions
* at university:  WPA2, PAP
 * detect networks correctly, but is not always able to get an IP
 * frequent breakage; sometimes a power off / power on is required because
the hardware can not be reseted (message from dmesg)
 * even freeze (kernel hang?) are experienced since a few days: the
computer is completely blocked, I need to press the power button and reboot.

If any other information is required I will provide them.
Thanks,

2008-11-27 Thread Antoine Pairet
Using a newer version of the driver removes the error in dmesg. I followed this
guide:
http://madberry.org/2008/11/how-to-get-atheros-ar242x-to-work-on-810-intrepid-ibex/

link speed reported by NM is now oscillating between 5 and 24 Mb/sec

Should backported modules in intrepid be updated?

observed on all programs that try to access a nfs server which is down. I can
confirm that the following programs hang:
 * nautilus
 * firefox (through FireFTP extension)
 * Filezilla

[Bug 361843] Re: Kile 2.1 LaTeX editor is extremely slow

2009-05-06 Thread Antoine Pairet
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 252094 ***

I do experience this slowness but I do not use the intel driver (my card
is from AMD and I use the -ati driver). So why is it marked as duplicate
of a bug related to the intel graphic driver? There is definitively
something I do not understand here!

[Bug 361843] Re: Kile 2.1 LaTeX editor is extremely slow

2009-04-23 Thread Antoine Pairet
I also experience this problem and I had like to precise the following:
When scrolling up/down, some lines are reproduced twice. It can take about 30
seconds or more for Kile to recover from this situation.

the option "--graphicssystem raster" does not solve the problem as the
screenshots provided are taken with Kile launched with this command:
kile --graphicssystem raster

I do not think it is intel related as suggested above. I am using an ATI
graphic card with the -ati driver. I am running gnome with subpixel
smoothing enabled. I will test and report back if the behavior changes
when disabling subpixel smoothing.

The screenshot should be compared with the latex file attached.

[Bug 204478] Re: Scim Starts Automatically Under KDE4 (Using English Only Language)

2008-10-16 Thread Antoine Pairet
I have a gnome desktop by default and I wanted to try KDE4, so I
installed kubuntu-desktop.

Kde4 was unusable, it tooks more than 4 minutes before seeing the
desktop and it was lagging a lot. I was no able to launch any program.
To understand what was happening, I first logged into tty1 and ran
"top", then logged trough GDM on KDE4. What I saw was surprising: There
were about 10 processes called scim-panel-gtk consuming lot of memory
and CPU.

I decided to uninstall scim. Now KDE4 is usable.

scim-bridge-client
scim-bridge-qt
scim-bridge-qt4
scim-bridge-gtk

are still present.

[Bug 270763] Re: Intrepid Ibex: Cannot empty Evolution Trash : [no such table: Templates]

2008-10-21 Thread Antoine Pairet
After doing the trick of salubrium, I don't experience the problem anymore. I'm
able to to empty trash without crash nor warnings.
Is the bug solved and should this report be marked as "Fix Released"?

[Bug 215586] Re: ATI IXP SB4x0 HDA: headphones don't work but they do mute speakers

2008-10-11 Thread Antoine Pairet
adding 'options snd-hda-intel model=dallas' to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base
solves the problem. However, the signal is weak and sound is not loud.
With the same amplifier I get 3 times louder sound with a CD player than
with the computer.

Changing the status to triaged.

[Bug 273266] Re: regression: wifi with AR242x doesn't work with 2.6.27-7 (nor -3, 4, 5, 6), did work with 2.6.27-2

2008-10-12 Thread Antoine Pairet
I tried several times to build the kernel but always had the same issue:
 linux-headers-2.6.27-2-generic depends on linux-headers-2.6.27-2; however:
  Package linux-headers-2.6.27-2 is not installed.

A bit of googling and I found this thread on ubuntuforums, maybe some useful
info?

[Bug 221112] Re: Can't use space bar in search bar when using french alternative keyboard

2008-11-08 Thread Antoine Pairet
As far as I am concerned, changing the layout of the keyboard from
"French Alternative" to "French" solves the issue. The difference
between the layouts for the space key is that in "French Alternative",
it is "nobreakspace".

In fact, the default installation select the "French Alternative" layout
when choosing a french keyboard. I think this should be changed in the
installer.

[Bug 228548] Re: Atheros AR242x support broken

2008-10-29 Thread Antoine Pairet
As far as I am concerned, I have no problem with AR242x on Intrepid. I
use ath_pci and ath_hal. Driver was activated trough the restricted
driver manager.

Arie, please try
* with a live CD of Intrepid and see if wifi is working or not.
* If it is not working with live CD, try using the package
backports-modules-intrepid. It will provide the ath5K driver.

[Bug 273266] Re: regression: wifi with AR242x doesn't work with 2.6.27-4, did work with 2.6.27-2

2008-09-26 Thread Antoine Pairet
Hi,
I sure want to help you fix the problem. I haven't done this before but it's a
good manner to start, isn't it? I'll have time to do that on Sunday.

As the problem happened with the transition from 2.6.27-2 to 2.6.27-3,
the git bisect should be done between those two versions.

I suppose I need to have the sources, so I would need to perform:
sudo apt-get build-dep linux-image-2.6.27-2
apt-get source linux-image-2.6.27-2

and

sudo apt-get build-dep linux-image-2.6.27-3
apt-get source linux-image-2.6.27-3

When I have the sources (btw, In synaptics, I don't see linux-
image-2.6.27-2 anymore and it's removed from my system), how can I then
perform the bisect? In what directory should I have to run the commands
below?

# git bisect start
# git bisect bad $linux-image-2.6.27-3
# git bisect good $linux-image-2.6.27-2

And what about linux-ubuntu-modules ? Should I do the same with it?

What would be easier for me is to have a step by step explaination of what I
exactly need to do.
Thanks for your help!

[Bug 210261] Re: evolution crashed with SIGSEGV in finish_feed()

2008-07-09 Thread Antoine Pairet
Why is thisbug marked as "Fix Released" since the bug is still present
in the Ubuntu repo?

Shouldn't there be an update of the package?
In the repo: 0.0.8
Current stable version: 0.1.0
I tested this package
http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/pool/main/e/evolution-rss/evolution-rss_0.1.0-1_amd64.deb
 and it resolved the problem.

If updating the package is not possible, how can we make this solved in
the package present in the repo? In which way can I help?

Thanks in adavance,

[Bug 273266] Re: regression: wifi with AR242x doesn't work with 2.6.27-4, did work with 2.6.27-2

2008-10-05 Thread Antoine Pairet
Hi!
After compiling the kernel, 2 .deb are created. However I have problems when I
try to install linux-headers:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] 03:55:40:~$ sudo dpkg -i
linux-headers-2.6.27-2-generic_2.6.27-2.3_amd64.deb
Selecting previously deselected package linux-headers-2.6.27-2-generic.
(Reading database ... 217824 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking linux-headers-2.6.27-2-generic (from
linux-headers-2.6.27-2-generic_2.6.27-2.3_amd64.deb) ...
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of
linux-headers-2.6.27-2-generic:
 linux-headers-2.6.27-2-generic depends on linux-headers-2.6.27-2; however:
  Package linux-headers-2.6.27-2 is not installed.
dpkg: error processing linux-headers-2.6.27-2-generic (--install):
 dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
Errors were encountered while processing:
 linux-headers-2.6.27-2-generic

The linux-image is installed correctly and I have a new entry in
/boot/grub/menu.lst

So the question is: do I need the headers to have to wifi working or
should it work without them?

Moreover, I'm not sure I understand that part correctly:

After having tested a kernel, let's say I boot with 2.6.27-2 and wifi works, I
do
cd ubuntu-intrepid
bisect good

And after that, what I'm suppose to do? Reexecute the command
AUTOBUILD=1 NOEXTRAS=1 fakeroot debian/rules binary-generic
which 'll then build the kernel with next commit ? Or should I do something
else?

Thanks in adavance,

I confirm this is fixed in Intrepid. I just tested the Daily Live CD and had no
graphical problem.

[Bug 258734] Re: nautilus hangs when unmounting an nfs disk if nfs server is down

2008-09-14 Thread Antoine Pairet
I need help using gdb because I can't get any useful information.
I followed this guide: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace

I started nautilus under control of gdb and typed "run", then gdb tells
me the program "exited normally". After that, I maked nautilus hanging
by trying to unmount the nfs drive. Then I returned to the shell and
typed: "backtrace full", but gdb tells me there's no stack.

Did I do something wrong?
Below is the command line output of the operations I performed. In attachment
is the file gdb-nautilus.txt

Thanks for your help.
I now will try to reproduce the bug with daily build of Intrepid (20080913).

[Bug 259012] Re: evolution deletes lines of a reply when changing address

2008-09-23 Thread Antoine Pairet
Here are some news:
The problem only occurs when the option "Keep signature above the original
message on replying" is selected.
Since I'm now able to reproduce the bug with a new user, I'll open an upstream
bug.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: evolution

  Description:
When replying to an email, if I change the field "From" to select and
alternative email address, evolution will delete a line of the message.
Changing several times of address email in the "From" field will delete several
lines of the email.

  Step to reproduce:
- 1. Open a message and click "Reply"
- 2. Change the address in the "From" field
- 3. Each time you change the address, one line is deleted in the email
+ 1. Go to "Composer Preferences" and check the option "Keep Signature above
original message when replying"
+ 2. Open a message and click "Reply"
+ 3. Change the address in the "From" field
+ 4. Each time you change the address, one line is deleted in the email

  Further information:
- This behavior is only observed when replying to an email. If one writes a new
message, evolution won't delete any line when changing the "From" filed.
+ This behavior is only observed when replying to an email if and only if the
option "Keep Signature above original message when replying" is selected. If
one writes a new message, evolution won't delete any line when changing the
"From" filed.

- -proposed repo activated
+ Note the problem also occurs with intrepid ( Evolution 2.24.0)

[Bug 211759] Re: Live-CD (7.10, 8.04) fails to start X server (ATI Xpress 1250)

2008-05-12 Thread Antoine Pairet
** Summary changed:

- Ubuntu 7.1 Live-CD boots to black screen (ATI Xpress 1250)
+ Live-CD (7.10, 8.04) fails to start X server (ATI Xpress 1250)

** Description changed:

- hi guys, this is a important problem for me and it wolud be realy very
- very great, if it could be solved in next versions...
+ The live CD of versions
+ * 7.10
+ * 8.04
+ will fail to start X server on laptops using the on-board graphic card ATI
XPRESS 1250
+ Editing xorg.conf and manually setting driver to "ati" will also fail.

- The Ubuntu Live CD 7.10 can't boot on my new notebook (Samsung R60 Aura
- Diazz, the graphic adapter is an on-board ATI XPRESS 1250). Similary
- bugs have been reported already, but not for this graphic adapter.
+ Compiling radeonhd from git with the procedure discribed here [1] and
+ editing xorg.conf to use that driver solves the problem. I didn't
+ perform any test with 8.10 since there's no live cd avalaible yet.

- I tested also the new beta version (8.04) with the same result.
+ Please ask for more information if needed,
+ reagards,

- Thank You in advance, hoobasco

[Bug 211759] Re: Live-CD (7.10, 8.04) fails to start X server (ATI Xpress 1250)

2008-05-13 Thread Antoine Pairet
Hi,
I pulled the latest sources from git:
git-clone git://anongit.freedesktop.org/git/xorg/driver/xf86-video-ati

Then I applied the patch:
patch --verbose -uN < alex_deucher.diff

The patch applied succesfully (had to enter manually the path to the files to
patch)
Then I edited my xorg.conf file and set the ati driver, then I restarted X and
the computer crashed. I had to restart by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete.
In the Xorg.0.log:
(EE) RADEON(0): Timeout trying to update memory controller settings !
(EE) RADEON(0): You will probably crash now ...

I'll attach this log and my xorg.conf,
regards,
Antoine

ps: will also post this message on bugzilla at freedesktop.org

[Bug 211759] resolved with Alex Deucher's

2008-05-13 Thread Antoine Pairet
The bug is resolved upstream. Alex Deucher wrote a patch that resolved the
problem.
http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15914

Now it would be great if the patch is applicable to version 6.8.0 of the driver
so it could be backported to Hardy.
If you need information like .rej files when apllying the patch to Hardy's
current version, feel free to ask,

Thanks for the great job you do,
regards,
Antoine

[Bug 258734] [NEW] nautilus crash when unmounting an nfs disk if nfs server is down

2008-08-17 Thread Antoine Pairet
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

This procedure involves 2 computers:
1. NFSServer
2. NFSClient

Step to reproduce:
1. Mounting an NFS disk on NFSClient
2. Shutting down the NFSServer
3. In nautilus/on the desktop, right clicking on the NFS disk and trying to
unmount it
4. Nautilus crash

Symptons:
After the crash, nautilus process is still active, but there are no icons on
the desktop anymore, going to Places -> Home just doesn't work and there's no
error message. Trying to execute nautilus trough a terminal doesn't work and
gives no error

Workaround:
If you right clicked on the icon on the desktop: Go to System -> System Monitor
-> Kill Nautilus
If you right clicked under nautilus: Close the window and confirm the fact that
you want to kill process

After killing nautilus, everything works fine but the NFS drive is still
mounted. Trying to access gives no result.

[Bug 44622] Re: USB mouse does not work after waking up from hibernation

2008-08-17 Thread Antoine Pairet
Hi,
I still experience this bug on Hardy. My usb mouse doesn't work after resuming
from hibernation. A fix around is to open a terminal and execute "lsusb" you
won't see anything but it does reactivate your mouse! Unplugging and plugging
again doesn't do anything.

[Bug 202288] Re: Loses sound when seeking or when switching language

2008-08-04 Thread Antoine Pairet
I confirm the bug too.

This may be related to this bug which also give links to upstream bugs:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/41335

How can we help this to be solved?

[Bug 202288] Re: Loses sound when seeking or when switching language

2008-08-05 Thread Antoine Pairet
Here are the steps to reproduce the bug while reading a DVD:

1. Start playing a movier using totem and totem-gstreamer
2. Click on Sound ->Languages -> Track XXX and select another than the
default one
3. Sound doesn't work anymore

Is there any test I should make? Running totem from shell? What debug info can
I give?
Thanks!
