As far as I am concerned, I have no problem with AR242x on Intrepid. I use ath_pci and ath_hal. Driver was activated trough the restricted driver manager.
Arie, please try * with a live CD of Intrepid and see if wifi is working or not. * If it is not working with live CD, try using the package backports-modules-intrepid. It will provide the ath5K driver.
