[Bug 1888749] Re: sup-mail broken and unusable after Bionic to Focal upgrade

2020-09-21 Thread Lucas Kanashiro
Hi Iain,

Sorry for making you wait for that long, I lost track of this bug.

I just uploaded your package to focal-proposed. I made a small change in
the changelog to avoid more back and forth, I added "Backport sup-mail
version 1.0-3 from Groovy to Focal" instead of "No-change rebuild of
sup-mail 1.0-3 from Groovy, for Focal". I did that because you were
mentioning a no-change rebuild but actually there is a change, the
downgrade of debhelper compatibility level.

About the extra SRU team review, from my experience if we keep
everything in place and keep ~ubuntu-sru subscribed they will get to it.

Thanks for you reminder about this bug!

[Bug 1895816] Re: gnome-shell freezing (and gdm restarting) -> xorg crash file found

2020-09-21 Thread Eike
Dear Daniel,

this bug was created from an *.crash file. I only added some additional
information. The part of the system that crashed is the x server.

I have an according .crash, .upload, and .uploaded file on my machine,
but this report is not listed on my whoopsie reports page.

Is it secure to post the ID from the uploaded crash report here?

[Bug 1668891] Re: Can install non classic snap with --classic, but classic flag isn't set

2020-09-21 Thread Claudio Matsuoka
@didrocks: installing a non-classic snap with --classic with current
snapd issues the following warning. (Using --classic shouldn't override
the package confinement, the flag is still ignored but not silently.)

$ snap install word-salad --classic
Warning: flag --classic ignored for strictly confined snap word-salad

word-salad 0.1 from Alan Pope 🐧 (popey) installed

I'll close this bug as fix-released (this was addressed in 2.37),
however if you feel this is not a proper solution please reopen.

@pachulo: I can't reproduce the situation you describe (strictly
confined snap seeing the real /). If this is still an issue, please open
a new bug and it will be investigated.

[Bug 1895563] Re: Kernel Oops: Rsyncing to bcache device w/o backing cache kernel panic

2020-09-21 Thread Mauricio Faria de Oliveira
Hey Brendan,

Thanks for reporting this bug.
It looks like the crashdump files didn't come through?

Could you please try to reproduce with the 5.8 kernel from Groovy on
your Bionic install?

These are the steps to install it.
Please remove the .list file as soon as you install the packages, to avoid
other packages from Groovy to be installed unintendly.

$ echo 'deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu groovy main restricted' | sudo tee
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/groovy.list
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu groovy main restricted
$ sudo apt update
$ sudo apt install --dry-run
linux-{image,modules-extra,headers}-5.8.0-18-generic
$ sudo rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/groovy.list

Once you're done with testing, you can remove the installed packages
with:

$ sudo apt purge linux-{image,modules,modules-
extra,headers}-5.8.0-18-generic

Please note there's an additional linux-modules package in this list (which is
a pulled as a dependency in the install command.)
You can also specify other packages if any are also pulled during the install
step, but testing it here it doesn't look like any other packages are pulled in.

Thanks,
Mauricio

[Bug 1896489] [NEW] UI for "drop to root shell" is confusing

2020-09-21 Thread William Dietrich
Public bug reported:

1. Boot into GRUB recovery menu.
2. Select menu item "Drop to root shell prompt".
3. Get prompt that says "Press Enter for maintenance (or press control-D to
continue):"

This is confusing, and actually backwards. Control-D doesn't "continue"
with the menu item you selected, it ends the root shell and goes back to
the menu. You want to press Enter if you want to continue on and get a
root shell prompt.

Please reword the prompt to something like "Press Enter to go to the
root shell (or press control-D to go back to the menu):".

[Bug 1847105]

2020-09-21 Thread crobinso
Okay now that I actually look into this and wrap my head around it,
virt-manager should change.
See this previously mentioned change:
https://github.com/virt-manager/virt-manager/commit/15a6a7e2105440df528f75c4df4d2471df28bd1e

The idea behind virt-manager's default was if user selected 'raw' for disk
images, assume the user wants
to maximize performance, so fully allocate the disk.

qcow2 didn't support anything except sparse, so the sparse=True vs sparse=False
made no difference.
So we always set sparse=False

Then qcow2 grows non-sparse support, and virt-manager is suddenly defaulting to
it. That's a pretty big semantic
change. Even if falloc is fast enough in most cases, it is still claiming all
the storage up front. Which
is not the historically intended behavior.

So I pushed a change to virt-manager to default to only use non-sparse for raw
format by default.
That should side step this issue

I'll be pushing a new release with the fix sometime this coming week

commit ba08f84b3408744e9aa9763d100e8aa217c1f5ff
Author: Cole Robinson
Date: Sat Sep 19 18:06:45 2020 -0400

addstorage: Return to using qcow2 sparse by default

[Bug 1896491] [NEW] Boot messages write over top of GRUB recovery menu

2020-09-21 Thread William Dietrich
Public bug reported:

1. Hold down Shift key while booting, to get into GRUB
2. Choose options to get into Recovery menu (I forget exact wording)
3. As Ubuntu continues to finish booting, boot messages write over top of GRUB
menu (see attached screenshot)
4. I think you can use up/down arrow keys to make the menu items appear again.
But if a user gets confused and manages to click OK on something they can't
read, they could damage their system.

[Bug 1890270] Re: SRU: update gdb 9.2 for 20.04 LTS

2020-09-21 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Hello Matthias, or anyone else affected,

Accepted gdb into focal-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdb/9.2-0ubuntu1~20.04
in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
focal to verification-done-focal. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-focal. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

2020-09-21 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Hello Matthias, or anyone else affected,

be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python3.8/3.8.5-1~20.04 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See

to enable and use -proposed.

This gets me back to a working system
  $ aa-enforce /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.libvirtd
  $ systemctl restart libvirtd

And this also explains why on the system where I re-installed libvirt things
might have worked.
The re-install runs dh_apparmor which has loaded and enforced it.

[Bug 1885031] Re: supervisor write access in kernel mode

2020-09-21 Thread Mauricio Faria de Oliveira
Hey Martin.

The issues reported on comment 1 and commment 24 have different stack
trace signatures, and do not seem to be the same issue at all.

I'll thus mark this bug as Invalid as apparently you couldn't reproduce
the original issue anymore.

If the new issue is still present with the latest 5.4 kernel in
-updates, please feel free to report a new bug.

Thank you!

[Bug 1895458] Re: Computer freezes on kernel 5, works on kernel 4

2020-09-21 Thread Mauricio Faria de Oliveira
Hi Petar,

Thanks for the bug report.

Unfortunately there's little details about the error.

Could you please post a picture of your compute screen
once the 5.4 kernel fails to boot?

(after you removed the 'quiet' and 'splash' options in
the grub editor, and pressed ctrl-x to boot.)

Mainly looking for error messages, a initramfs prompt,
or something like a stack trace.

Thanks,
Mauricio

What location do you try to open exactly, the 'trash:' one (using the
icon in the sidebar for example)? How does it fail to open, does it give
an error or just block?

I click the trash icon. Then the waiting wheel starts turning until I click
another item.

Re: [Bug 1896349] Re: PCI/internal sound card not detected

2020-09-21 Thread Fernando Marcel Tarantino Martins
Mr Wang, the computer now showed the same problem! I don't know what
happens.
w how to
I tried to solve it using your link, but I don't know how to proceed to
make the backup you ask and also don't know how to attach the other files.
I'm kind of new using Linux and sometimes it's difficult to understand what
application and what steps I have to do in order to make things work as it
should.

[Bug 1880799] Re: Error: cannot import name 'compatible_tags'

2020-09-21 Thread Mark Ferrell
According to the above linked issue, this is a distribution bug, not a
local configuration or an upstream bug.

The bug goes away when the user removes the vendor package and installs
an upstream version.

[Bug 1766695] Re: xrdp-sesman fails to start at bootup

2020-09-21 Thread João Pedro Seara
Noticed a similar issue today. With the difference that in my case,
sesman would never come up. Found out that I was hitting [1]. Had to use
workaround from [2].

Complete workaround was:

Fix was:

1. sudo bash -c 'export SYSTEMD_EDITOR="/usr/bin/vi" && systemctl edit
xrdp-sesman.service'

2. sudo systemctl edit xrdp-sesman

[Service]
Type=simple
ExecStartPre=/bin/sleep 20

Save the file.

3. sudo vi /etc/default/xrdp

SESMAN_OPTIONS="-n"

4. sudo systemctl stop xrdp-sesman xrdp

5. sudo systemctl start xrdp-sesman xrdp

[Bug 1812456] Re: [MIR] libflatpak0

2020-09-21 Thread Didier Roche
[Summary]
ACK from the MIR team.
This does need a security review, so I'll assign ubuntu-security list specific
binary packages to be promoted to main

[Duplication]
There is no other package in main providing the same functionality.

[Dependencies]
- no other Dependencies to MIR due to this apart from ostree which is listed
above

[Embedded sources and static linking]
- no embedded source present
- no static linking

[Security]
- history of CVEs does not look concerning
- does not use webkit1,2
- does not use lib*v8 directly
- does not parse data formats
- does not open a port
- does not process arbitrary web content
- does not use centralized online accounts
- does not integrate arbitrary javascript into the desktop (apart in tests)
- does not deal with system authentication (eg, pam), etc)

Problems:
- it does run a daemon as root and interacts with cgroups. This isn’t part of
the binary package we are promoting, however, as we have the rule "if the
source in is main, we can promote any other binary package without a new MIR",
this will need to be checked right now with the security team.

[Common blockers]
OP:
- does not FTBFS currently
- does have a test suite that runs at build time
- test suite fails will fail the build upon error.
- does have a test suite that runs as autopkgtest. Some tests are marked as
flaky
- The package has a team bug subscriber
- translation presents?
- not a python/go package, no extra constraints to consider int hat regard
- no new python2 dependency

[Packaging red flags]
OK:
- Ubuntu does not carry a delta
- symbols tracking is in place
- d/watch is present and looks ok
- Upstream update history is good
- Debian/Ubuntu update history is good
- the current release is packaged
- promoting this does not seem to cause issues for MOTUs that so far
- no massive Lintian warnings
- d/rules is rather clean
- Does not have Built-Using

[Upstream red flags]
OK:
- no Errors/warnings during the build
- no incautious use of malloc/sprintf (as far as I can check it)
- no use of sudo, gksu, pkexec, or LD_LIBRARY_PATH
- no use of user nobody
- no use of setuid
- no important open bugs (crashers, etc) in Debian or Ubuntu
- no dependency on webkit, qtwebkit, seed or libgoa-*
- no embedded source copies
- not part of the UI for extra checks

[Bug 1847105] Re: very slow disk creation, snapshotting

2020-09-21 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
It works (as expected):

before:
4 0 17337 263 20 0 163108 4240 - Sl ? 0:47 \_
/usr/bin/qemu-img create -f qcow2 -o
preallocation=falloc,compat=1.1,lazy_refcounts
/var/lib/libvirt/images/ubuntu20.04.qcow2 26214400K

Now:
4 0 43901 263 20 0 163108 5436 - Sl ? 0:00 \_
/usr/bin/qemu-img create -f qcow2 -o
preallocation=metadata,compat=1.1,lazy_refcounts
/var/lib/libvirt/images/ubuntu20.04.qcow2 26214400K

Even without the change to libvirt it works (as that is a valid fix, but
for a different use case).

And it is going much faster is on e.g. the ZFS based setup that was
mentioned.

[Bug 1891296] Re: Please include snapd logs

2020-09-21 Thread Eric Desrochers
@mvo,

The 'snappy.py' plugin already provides the journal via
'add_journal()'[0] method producing the following:
'sos_commands/snappy/journalctl_--no-pager_--unit_snapd'

Note that this is already part of every supported Ubuntu stable release.

It would only be a matter of collecting '/var/lib/snapd/state.json' as
suggested while not revealing sensitive information.

[Bug 1890037] Re: mdcheck_* timers refer non-existing binary mdcheck

2020-09-21 Thread Nathan Rennie-Waldock
This was a packaging error in Debian that has been fixed in mdadm 4.1-6
(released a week ago). Can we get that merged? Or at least debian/rules
updated to install misc/mdcheck.

This is actually serious and could cause data loss if an array member
develops bad sectors as automatically checking the array is
nonfunctional.

[Bug 1896498] [NEW] Ubuntu installer failed while trying "fresh" install over existing instalation on btrfs

2020-09-21 Thread João Manuel Rodrigues
Public bug reported:

I have a previous installation of Ubuntu 16.04.
My disk has 2 GPT partitions:
/dev/sda1 for /boot/efi
/dev/sda2 btrfs with 2 subvolumes: @ mounted as /, @home mounted as /home.

I tried a fresh install of Ubuntu 20.04.1. I selected manual
partitioning and /dev/sda1 was recognized as Boot/efi. I had to select
/dev/sda2 and specify "mount as" / (there is no better alternative). I
proceeded and verified on a terminal that the installer detected the
subvolumes just fine:

ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ mount | grep sda
/dev/sda2 on /target type btrfs
(rw,relatime,ssd,space_cache,subvolid=257,subvol=/@)
/dev/sda1 on /target/boot/efi type vfat
(rw,relatime,fmask=0077,dmask=0077,codepage=437,iocharset=iso8859-1,shortname=mixed,errors=remount-ro)
/dev/sda2 on /target/home type btrfs
(rw,relatime,ssd,space_cache,subvolid=258,subvol=/@home)

The instalation went on to copy files, all seemed fine. When the step
"Creating a user" was reached, the installer crashed with an unspecified
error.

[Bug 1895458] Re: Computer freezes on kernel 5, works on kernel 4

2020-09-21 Thread Petar Pirgov
Please find attached a snapshot of the boot screen
(var_log.tar.gz::var_log/1.jpg) and the screen after Ctrl+x
(var_log.tar.gz::var_log/2.jpg) - it simply freezes and displays nothing
more.

What I did:
1. booted kernel 5.4.0-48 without "quiet" & "splash" - 1.jpg
2. Ctrl+x - the computer totally froze (as I said before) - 2.jpg
3. Than I re-booted with kernel 4.5.0-112, logged in and took all /var/log/*
files from today

Thank you for your support!

2020-09-21 Thread Sebastien Bacher
> I did not changed my source repositories. Do I need to change
something on it?

well you did at some point,

 ii libglib2.0-0:amd64 2.64.3-1~ubuntu20.04.1 amd64 GLib library of C
routines

that version isn't available in your sources, it comes from focal-
updates, so either you enabled the updates repository to install it or
did something else?

the issue is that libglib2.0-dev need to be a matching version but you
removed the source containing the version of glib you are based on, you
either need to enable focal-updates or reinstall the focal version of
libglib2.0-0 (apt install --reinstall libglib2.0-0/focal)

Hello Matthias, or anyone else affected,

Accepted gcc-10-cross into focal-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gcc-10-cross/6ubuntu3 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed.

[Bug 1896334] Re: SRU 3.36.6

2020-09-21 Thread Treviño
** Description changed:

  [ Impact ]

That's the current GNOME stable update, including some fixes and translation
updates
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/commits/3.36.6

Since the theme side of the project in ubuntu is shipped via Yaru theme,
that project is included in the SRU.

The changes involving yaru here are ONLY gnome-shell upstream changes
applied to the Yaru sources, as per this we can consider them also part
  of the GNOME release.

+ The yaru-theme's `gnome-shell/upstream` directory is just for documentation
and
+ to allow three way merges when updating to new versions of gnome-shell,
+ and it is not used for generating the final packages at all
+
  [ Test case ]

The update is part of GNOME stable updates
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates/GNOME

GNOME Shell and its components should continue working

  [ Regression potential ]

There have been fixes in popup-grab handling, gdm view fixes, lockscreen
display changes in some hw, extensions updates

[Bug 1894453] Re: Building Ceph packages with RelWithDebInfo

2020-09-21 Thread Ponnuvel Palaniyappan
An update:

I have built rocksdb with & without RelWithDebInfo. Some differences
are:

 - the exact set of additional flags used with RelWithDebInfo are: -O2
-NDEBUG -fno-omit-frame-pointer -momit-leaf-frame-pointer.

 - the size of rocksdb shared library (librocksdb.so): default-build =
156M, with-RelWithDebInfo = 235M (In the case of Ceph binaries, this
shared library isn't used separately but compiled into ceph-osd and
others. Similar comparison of ceph-osd binary size stripped: default-
build = 16M, with-RelWithDebInfo = 25M).

- There are about ~5700 asserts in rocksdb which would disappear with
RelWithDebInfo.

I am doing further performance benchmarks between the two versions and will
update once done.

[Bug 1896506] [NEW] keepalived_use_no_track default=True breaks bionic deploys

2020-09-21 Thread Corey Bryant
Public bug reported:

Presumably the default of keepalived_use_no_track default=True breaks
bionic deploys and the patch [1] has been backported to several bionic-
based stable branches with a conflicting default config value; it's been
backported back to stable/rocky.

[1] https://review.opendev.org/#/c/747862/1

This doesn't seem like a good backport to stable branches without having
some logic in it that detects the version of keepalived and sets the
default appropriately based on that version.

More discussion with slaweq from #openstack-neutron:

Can we revert this for all releases prior to Ussuri?

For Ubuntu, Ussuri is available by default with Focal, but we also

keepalived_use_no_track default to False for bionic.

[Bug 1896509] [NEW] initramfs always tries to bring up the network even when unnecessary

2020-09-21 Thread dann frazier
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
Currently if you install clevis-initramfs, it will always try to bring up
networking even in cases where it is unnecessary. It's not necessary if, say,
the volume is to be unlocked via TPM, or perhaps no pin at all and clevis just
happens to be installed. In those cases, the user is stuck waiting for
configure_networking() to finish before they get prompted for a passphrase,
and that will take nearly 5 minutes to timeout if the system is offline. It is
also not clear to users that it *will* eventually timeout, which they may
interpret as leaving their system unbootable w/o a network connection.

[Test Case]
- Regression test a system that is online and uses a tang pin.
- Test a system using a tang pin that is offline, and confirm the user is
prompted with a passphrase prompt without delay.
- Test a system that does not use a tang pin and verify that network config is
not attempted.

[Fix]
Backport of this upstream patch series:
https://github.com/latchset/clevis/commit/adaef407265479cd1067c4fbf69fdaa0dd6ae586
https://github.com/latchset/clevis/commit/ee369808473945165a3f3b79a52c1d10f29eb5c4
https://github.com/latchset/clevis/commit/780eb30986323613f5b192c03c881caecae8cd7b

[Regression Potential]
If the tang pin detection is buggy, it's possible that systems will fail to
auto-unlock using a tang server. It's also possible (but seemingly unlikely)
that users have been relying on network access in the initramfs as a
side-effect of having clevis installed, and that could no longer be the case if
clevis determines it is not necessary for its own purposes.

[Bug 1895458] Re: Computer freezes on kernel 5, works on kernel 4

2020-09-21 Thread Mauricio Faria de Oliveira
Thanks.

Ok, so there's nothing printed to console after grub loads the kernel
and initramfs.

The parameters in your grub config look good (kernel+initramfs+cmdline
w/ root= and ro.)

Could you please try without 'quiet splash' again, but add the options:
'earlyprintk=vga ignore_loglevel' ?

That might print some early initialization messages.

Thanks,
Mauricio

[Bug 1896508] [NEW] Firefox window disappears completely

2020-09-21 Thread Morgan Wahl
Public bug reported:

After running for a while, eventually the firefox window just becomes
completely transparent. The window manager (gnome-shell) still sees it,
and I can quit firefox. The dialog to ask me whether I want to quite
with open tabs opens up, but is just a blank window. Thankfully I know
where the "close tabs" button is and I click there and it works.

So, input events seem to work find and the window manager still sees the
window, but it's gone.

If I run firefox on the console I see this output when it happens:

Unflushed glGetGraphicsResetStatus: 0x92bb
[GFX1-]: [OPENGL] Failed to init compositor with reason:
FEATURE_FAILURE_OPENGL_CREATE_CONTEXT

There is an upstream bug:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1535721 that suggests
looking at the value of layers.acceleration.force-enabled . Indeed it's
set to true by default in this build.

I'm running Pop!OS on a System76 laptop, but as far as I can tell from
apt, the firefox package is just the ubuntu build.

$ apt show firefox
Package: firefox
Version: 80.0.1+build1-0ubuntu0.20.04.1

Reviewing the files from your upgrade attempt you seem to have enabled a
PPA that provides Xorg packages. This will prevent the upgrade as that
PPA contains package version numbers greater than the release to which
you are upgrading. You can revert the PPA by installing the ppa-purge
package from the official Ubuntu archive and then running 'sudo ppa-
purge ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers'. After that you can try upgrading
again and if it still fails open a new bug report. Thanks and good
luck!

[Bug 1896489] Re: UI for "drop to root shell" is confusing

2020-09-21 Thread Julian Andres Klode
The message is for single user mode and pressing Ctrl-D continues boot,
whereas Enter enters the shell/allows maintenance.

I can see it's confusing if you enter via friendly-recovery that way.

** Package changed: grub2 (Ubuntu) => friendly-recovery (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1896350] Re: nbd locks system?

2020-09-21 Thread Dan Kegel
(The zero size problem mentioned above also occurs occasionally on
ubuntu 18.04, and the workaround is to add a sleep in the user script
after modprobe nbd, so that's really a separate problem.)

Maybe in newer kernels /dev/console is taken over by a broken
framebuffer console?
