Recently installed a brand new copy of Linux Mint 20 Cinnamon and suffered frequent freezes. The workaround suggested in comment #45 fixed these for me. My current kernel is 5.4.0-47-generic, and I'm using a Intel© Core™ i5-6500T CPU (2.50GHz × 4) with Intel Corporation HD Graphics 530.
