Actually I was thinking more along the lines of one of the smaller flash players with 1 or 2 GB, although the iriver one sounds interesting. Our access to sighted help is somewhat tenuous since the person who could help us is a partial who gets headaches when looking at the screen too long. Christopher Thanks for all that info. I am looking for something similar to Dan except, in my case, what I need is something that has a large enough capacity that it can handle podcasts and other downloaded audio shows for listening in the car. So ideally it would be something that either my sighted wife or I could transfer shows from a pc to it and that either one of us could handle in the car. The Iriver, given its capacities, sounds as if this may be what we are after. I'll be awaiting others comments here and elsewhere. I realize that most folks get these players for music; but neither my wife or I are much into that. Does this fact that we are looking for playing back longer time audio podcasts rather than 3-4 minutes of music cuts change the parameters at all? Dan That's exactly what I am looking for -- something that I can copy files onto and then pietruk pul4812 guse with some basic keystrokes. Neither my sighted wife or I are exceedingly techie; and, for instance, only use a cellphone for perhaps 100 minutes or so a month and only for simple answering and receiving calls. So an audio player that could accept copied files from a pc and just allow for finding them and then playing, stopping and the like would more than meet our needs at the moment and would have little or no learning curve to boot. I am trying to find a solution that is simpler than copying stuff to cds or audio tape for car use. Talksina, 1. When I play a stream in Screamer, it plays through the same sound card (my default card) as JAWS. Doesn't this mean that any recording I make will capture JAWS, as well as the recording source? Is there a way to isolate the recording source from JAWS. 2. I've found the menu option to begin a recording. Is there a keystroke that can be used, instead? And how do I stop or pause a recording? 3. I've found where I can set the recording bit rate. But is there a way to choose a format other than mp3? 4. When I click on the menu option to Open Recording folder, it takes me to my root directory. Is there a way to specify another folder in which to place a recording. 5. When I first start the program, the JAWS focus is on an up-down slider labeled Information, and set to 100%. What is this control? 6. I've found the presets menu. How do I add additional presets of my own? These are the questions that have occurred to me so far. Hi Gary, I had the same experience on the B&K audio site as well. Ill hold on to this email through the weekend and will forward privately so I dont clog things up on the list. IOW: I will get info for you and send it along. I had my eye on a unit via EBay had I sold my system. I kind of glad I didnt though, unless I could get into the B&K unit. I have an older B&K 4090 preamp, but the remote went bad, so I sold my power amp about two years ago and jumped into the Flagship Onkyo receiver. After further research, I realized how much of a step down the JVC wouldve been, so I moved on from it. Although it has some nice features, its not TXH Ultra II certified. Hi Dana! 1. When recording JAWS doesn't interfere in it. 2. As far as I know there is no shortcut to start and stop recording; anyway, there is a "rec" button when you alt-tab once when you're in the main up-down slider so just press space on it if you want to record and again to stop recording; or simply go to the recording menu and begin or stop recording from there. 3. There seems to be no other formats than MP3 or OGG if the stream is in OGG format. 4. You can set another directory for recordings by going to preferences under the settings menu and then to the recording card; then tab twice and you will find a button which JAWS won't specify but just press space on it and you'll get to the dialog box to find a new directory. 5. The up-down slider info is the volume; 100% is the highest so just move the up and down arrows to get a lower volume if you wish; BTW, if you lower the volume it doesn't have any influence on JAWS. 6. The presets are updated automatically and you'd better not add to them or then your additions would be deleted by the new automatic update anyway, but you can add new stations by yourself to favorites instead. Minor League Baseball on the Net
I learned earlier this year that a triple A minor league team moving into my area would be carried on the net. Last evening I brought up the site and found that the broadcast was through MiMLB.com a division of MLB. The site uses the same media player, and the login is almost exactly that of Game Day. I then assume that the fidelity would compare to that of Game Day. When the broadcast began I was astounded at the higher quality. It was though I was tuning into an FM broadcast of the radio station carrying the game. I realize that Game Day at $14.95 a year is a bargain, but surely after several years at it, I would have expected an improvement in Game Day's sound. Usually it speaks, but for example with jaws 8.0 in my workstation here in the office, it doesn't (the braille display follows me, but not speech) and at home, with jaws 7.10, it speaks properly. and also in my sighted boyfriend's computer, where I installed a jaws 5.10 to play around configuring his "toy", it works. Let me explain some things about main window. First you have the volume Information is not the label of the slider, but the title of the group box. if you navigate the window with jaws cursor, going up from t he slider (route jaws to pc and then up arrow), you will find, under "information", the name and URL of the station and eventually the song currently playing, then the buttons, and in the end, the status bar. Let's assume your volume is OK as it is now. you tab, and find play (alt+p) it will say, playback play button. Playback is the title of the group box containing the controls (play, mute and rec) The Play, of course, becomes Stop when you are playing and/or recording a station, and so, the access key from alt+p becomes alt+r. after play, you tab again and find Mute The name is quite ambiguous, because it seems that pressing it will make our computer silent. But that's not. Pressing Mute, just stops the playback. But the Jaws continues speaking, and also, it does not affect the recording in any way! It means that you could start Screamer Radio and begin recording, not to miss your favourite talk show while studying, and keeping it silent! I would just like to be able to hear it at all at any volume level. My issue remains, if I have no trouble with other audio offerings, yet cannot hear gameday audio, and if other people, both blind and sighted are encountering the same issue, how can it be assumed that the problem is exclusively on the user's end. It is difficult, not to mention frustrating for me to track the problem when everything else that I stream works flawlessly. Easy CD-DA Extractor
Does anyone have any idea why Easy CD-DA Extractor wouldn't be converting some of my m4A or MP4 files? I'm using version 9.1.3 pro, and I get an error message that there was a problem decoding. It doesn't do this with all my files, but these particular files are podcasts related to I-Tunes. Is there a setting I should change in either the program or the files? Thanks. Larry First of all, 99% of Gameday customers likely have no problem. If the service works for that large of a group, clearly, the service is working as intended. It's also clear that you have a problem for whatever reason. If you have sighted assistance available, I would suggest that you have that person try accessing a game. Turn off your screen reader so that it doesn't interfere with that person's use of the pc. Make certain that a mouse is plugged in. If I had to guess, perhaps the Gameday's player audio is either on mute or down to no volume. When having done this kind of debugging for myself, my sighted wife can often spot problems within 30 seconds that I couldn't detect in 30 hours. You are either doing something wrong; the problem is with the gameday player or something is blocking the stream. And I would also guess that the only way to resolve this is by someone having access to the machine that doesn't work. Mike, I did have my wife take a look, comparing what she could see on the screen of the computer that would play gameday audio with the screen of the one that wouldn't. She saw no difference. Both looked as though the audio was running. Now then, what you said about the volume being all the way down or muted makes sense. Can you tell me where to find mute and volume on the embedded player? I have a software synthesizer, so I can't duplicate what others do with WMP. It's wonderful that you have sighted help at your disposal! But how about people such as myself who don't: I have advised mlb that the real problem is they changed the functions of the access and no longer is simple as a b c! They had a working page last year so that even a person like you can access the games without sighted help. As to wwhy a few individuals are hearing no audio but the vast majority are, I don't have the foggiest notion -- and I am guessing that GameDay Audio doesn't either. Probably, what somebody needs to put together is a step-by-step users guide with troubleshooting tips which might help resolve these issues for blind users. Hello everyone, I'm catching this thread in the middle so I haven't read all of the messages concerning Game Day Audio not playing for some users. I had a similar problem last season, audio not playing, and here is what I did to resolve the issue. I removed Windows Media player, rebooted my computer, and performed a completely new installation of Media player 10. I think something broke dealing with Active X or Windows Media player, I couldn't access game day audio with Firefox or Internet explorer, this happened after it had worked for several months with no audio problems and then suddenly stopped working. After reinstalling Media Player, I rebooted my machine and then went to www.mlb.com/mediacenter. Since I am using JAWS, I hit the letter t to read the various tables on thethe media center web page, the one I wanted was shown with the day's games. I did, however, experience annoyance in attempting to view archived games from the menu on the web site, according to the mlb web site support frequently asked questions, this menu to select the archive was in java and I couldn't find a way to access it. Maybe they have fixed this problem for this season, but I haven't tried to access it. I would suggest reinstalling Media player, rebooting, and installing it again and rebooting, perhaps that will fix the problems people are having. Please note that I had no other problems with any other audio I wanted to listen to when this problem occurred, only with the Game Day Audio. I hope this helps those who are annoyed and frustrated. problem burning DVD's
Hi all! I usually use DVD Shrink 3.2 in conjunction with Nero 7 and the latest version of Any dDVD to burn DVD's. However, the last two times I've tried to rip a dvd with DVD shrink, I get the following error message. DVD Shrink 3.2 DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.graphic 683 Failed to read file "D:\" Overlapped I/O operation is in progress. OK What could be wrong? Is there any other software out there that works? I've already tried DVD decryptor, and I don't like it much. It never rips the DVD to a size which will fit onto a blank. Thanks! equalizer plugin
Does anyone know of a equalizer plugIn that works with any sound card? My laptop uses a sigmaTel c-major audio sound card that doesn't have its own E Q. the speaker system I use is very bassy and there is no way to turn down the subwoofer. Alex, I'll be glad to share what I've learned through my wife's help. As far as she can determine, in the case, of gameday audio's embedded player the only thing you can adjust is the volume control. My volume is turned all the way up. There are no firewall issues and no pop up issues as both were investigated. There is also no evident mute button in the player, also duely omvestogated. With all due respect to what has been reported here, I personally know of several people, both blind and sighted who are recieving stone cold silence with game day audio feeds. I really have no idea why, and as a non-expert, I won't debate the question of whether the problem lies with me, or with some conflict between the player and my system.I can speak only about the facts involving my situation. In my case, I could listen to all exhibition games but stopped recieving audio with game 1 of the regular season. I can listen to every other audio feed at my disposal, and since virtually all my radio listening involves online streams, that's really quite a lot. That is why logic dictates that I not blame my computer just because others receive the stream without issues. Meanwhile I'm following up on all suggestions, whether gained through sighted or unsighted help. Another group member has suggested uninstalling and reinstalling Windows Media. It seems to me that's definitely worth a try. If I learn anything I'll be glad to report it and will pass along any possible solution. Aside from sharing anything I learn about a possigle fix that might help others with the same issues, I'm signing off on the subject. I guess that means Elloquence. I used software speech similar to that with a 1 gigahertz machine with no problems. But, I began using a hardware synth for assurance that I was using as little computer resources as possible. Allison, Try the combination of AnyDVD and CloneDVD2. They are, on the whole, quite accessible and automatically compress the source files to fit on to a DVD. Clone DVD will burn dual layer disks if you have a DVD9 burner. AnyDVD unlocks the disk and CloneDVD does the copying. They are not free but the price is quite reasonable because there are updates every few weeks at no extra expense. Hi Leslie, If you're talking about trying to fix Game day audio, I uninstalled all of windows media player entirely. If you take this route, you might want to back up any libraries you might be using if you don't want to have to set them up manually again. Since I generally use Real Player, I didn't have to worry about this. I believe the game day audio player is an embedded version of Windows Media player and that it may also use flash player as well somehow. If your question wasn't about game day audio, then I apologize. Removing gaps in CD tracks in Nero
I have doen this in the past but can't quite remember how. I think you are supposed to select all but the first track, then go into properties. This is the part where I am not sure. There 2 check boxes to the left of the OK button and I can't rember which one is supposed to be checked or unchecked and if there is any other thing to do. Any assistance appreciated.
